...what will 997TT include?
997Carrera chassis, 996TT 3.6L bulletproof turbochargeable engine, 997TT turbo's. with VTG technological innovation, good performance specs. like 0-100kph in the 3's, 0-160kph in the 7's, 0-200kph in the 11's....
What I hate about it are the tail lights and the exhausts. I really liked the car judging by the first pictures (the swedish silver beauty), but mumbasic's pictures really put it into perspective. I really like technological innovation and I know the 997 will be the fastest car in its class, but Al, here's a serious question for you, since you own a TTS:
What would I lose by buying a low-mileage 996TT(S), slapping on VTG turbochargers, X73 and a rear LSD? Besides the "dated" looks (which, I must admit, I prefer), what are the disadvantages of the 996TT versus the 997TT?
You would lose two things, Crash:
1. The 997 chassis/drivetrain which is an advance over the 996's.
2. While we all take it for granted, the R&D to develop a VTG turbo system for the 997, which could have problems with the 996TT-you would have to yank out the K16/24's, re-map the ECU-yes, it can be done-and tuners will prove that it will-but there will be alot of trial and error, so if you tried one, you would be taking an expensive risk.
I eagerly await a 997TT in Cab form, maybe an "S" or just the powerkit, and possibly with PDK/PDCS, BUT I plan to keep my 996TSCab. And if the 600HP upgrade is a blast and reliable, who knows, there ARE 700-800HP upgrades available in shouting distance of the 600.
But I certainly wouldn't dissuade you from going the 996TT/S route with upgrade. BUT I would instead steer you toward a tuner and tuning package that has been tested by the tuners and proved by its buyers to be both effective and reliable at producing the advertised performance gains without major risk of breakdown.
I suspect that it will take at least 2-3 years for the tuners to assemble a good VTG tuning package (either an upgrade of the 997TT or a mod. of a 996TT-and probably longer for the latter) since it's such a new technological application on a gasoline-fed vehicle that would demand peak HP at 500+ and peak torque at 700Nm+.
If you are serious about buying a 996TT/S and modding it, you can PM me for my opinion about the programs I researched and the pro's and con's of different approaches-BTW, my 996TTS is NOT for sale.
