What I hate about it are the tail lights and the exhausts. I really liked the car judging by the first pictures (the swedish silver beauty), but mumbasic's pictures really put it into perspective. I really like technological innovation and I know the 997 will be the fastest car in its class, but Al, here's a serious question for you, since you own a TTS:

What would I lose by buying a low-mileage 996TT(S), slapping on VTG turbochargers, X73 and a rear LSD? Besides the "dated" looks (which, I must admit, I prefer), what are the disadvantages of the 996TT versus the 997TT?

You would lose two things, Crash:
    1. The 997 chassis/drivetrain which is an advance over the 996's.
    2. While we all take it for granted, the R&D to develop a VTG turbo system for the 997, which could have problems with the 996TT-you would have to yank out the K16/24's, re-map the ECU-yes, it can be done-and tuners will prove that it will-but there will be alot of trial and error, so if you tried one, you would be taking an expensive risk.

I eagerly await a 997TT in Cab form, maybe an "S" or just the powerkit, and possibly with PDK/PDCS, BUT I plan to keep my 996TSCab. And if the 600HP upgrade is a blast and reliable, who knows, there ARE 700-800HP upgrades available in shouting distance of the 600.

But I certainly wouldn't dissuade you from going the 996TT/S route with upgrade. BUT I would instead steer you toward a tuner and tuning package that has been tested by the tuners and proved by its buyers to be both effective and reliable at producing the advertised performance gains without major risk of breakdown.

I suspect that it will take at least 2-3 years for the tuners to assemble a good VTG tuning package (either an upgrade of the 997TT or a mod. of a 996TT-and probably longer for the latter) since it's such a new technological application on a gasoline-fed vehicle that would demand peak HP at 500+ and peak torque at 700Nm+.

If you are serious about buying a 996TT/S and modding it, you can PM me for my opinion about the programs I researched and the pro's and con's of different approaches-BTW, my 996TTS is NOT for sale.

All car magazines I ready so far already mention the 997 Turbo AND the PDK system. This means that marketing department is actually backing this up and it would make sense. I highly doubt that Porsche would delay PDK on the Turbo for marketing reasons. This doesn't make ANY sense.
I also don't remember any other options which have been delayed. Options are always extra cash, it doesn't make sense to delay them and long as they bring extra money.

I would speculate 0-100 kph in 3.7 sec, 0-160 kph in 7.6 sec. and 0-200 kph in 12 seconds flat. If performance would be better, this would really be sensational.

Hallo? Reinhold! Uwe hier!

Yes, I think that Uwe Alzen will use the 997 Turbo as a basis for his new race cars but it may take a while.
I doubt that the new VTG technology is compatible to the "old" 996 Turbos for various reasons.

What reasons would that be, RC? Anything connected to electronics? Since the engine seems to have remained basically the same, I'm not exactly sure why they would be incompatible, but I'm not an expert on the subject.

"just" a 4% price increase .......................... Now that is great news !! It sure would be nice if they introduced the cab at the same time as the coupe , that would be a beautiful thing .

    That's outstanding news.

The 4% figure needs to be interpreted vs what???....996TT base of $116Kish or 996TTS base of $131Kish? 996TTS incls PCCB 2.0; what will 997TT include and how much will PCCB ?3.0 cost? Need more data to interpret this 4% claim.....

the 4% increase is over the STANDARD 996 TT ,and not the turbo s
over here the 996tt was sold at 181K USD (with all our taxes and custom duty) ,the 997TT 997tt will be sold at 190k usd ,the difference contains a little bit of taxes ,so on the basic price its 4%

When you see the new 997 Turbo engine, you'll understand why it is not possible. Even if the 997 Turbo engine is a 3.6 l engine, almost all parts are different compared to the 996 Turbo engine, including the crankcase. It is still based on the "old" 964/GT1 design though. I would also suggest that you read my post regarding the VTG technology: http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=175312&an=0&page=0#175312 . It would require too many changes in hardware and even more in software. Not worth it for tuners. And not worth it for Alzen, it would be cheaper to get the 997 Turbo and modify it.

Re: 997 TURBO DEALER'S ORDER GUIDE IS OUT!!!

RC- any idea why no direct injection? I figured that for sure porsche would have this on the 997, but maybe its not applicable/necessary???

Re: 997 TURBO DEALER'S ORDER GUIDE IS OUT!!!

I know the 997 TT is not 500 hp but 480 hp is nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure that baby will rock and roll.

I'm not sure but I think DFI will be introduced with the new Cayenne in 2007 (MY 2008). The Panamera will have DFI engines too and I suppose the transition for the 911 engines won't take too long after that either.
