    navigation destination input

let's say i'm in download los angeles and want the navigation to find and take me to "fogo de chao" (restaurant in beverly hills)...how do i efficiently do so?

the only way i found was to navigate to restaurants in Los Angeles and then scroll through the list. but the list contains hundreds and hundreds of entries, it would take at least 10 minutes to get down to the letter F section.

    anything i'm missing?

    thanks

    Re: navigation destination input

You can search for restaurants by city and enter the name of the restaurant. It will pull up all Fogo de Chao that are listed.

    Re: navigation destination input

hm. are you sure? i have an early 05...do i need an update for this??

or, can anybody tell me a step-by-step, as apparently i'm an [censored]

    Re: navigation destination input

Select city then start typing name of restaurant. I couldn't find any "fogo..." in LA or Beverly Hills though.

    Re: navigation destination input

hmph. well that sucks, because it's a damn good restaurant.

i want a refund on this car :-) hehe

thanks, i'll try that next time i'm in my car and report back

    appreciate it

    Re: navigation destination input

I'll try it next time I'm out there. Brother (& his Wife) lives in West Hollywood.

I've had excellent results using the navi button. Very useful.

    Re: navigation destination input

go with an appetite. it's brazillian BBQ....all you can eat. fixed price for dinner $52.50/person....plus tip, deserts, and of course drinks...

mmm. i know where i'm goin tonite

    Re: navigation destination input

Maoun: Fogo is great! Having been to Brazil a couple times in the last couple years, I fell in love with the country and Brazillian churrascurias (and of course, Brazillian women). My nickname for Fogo is the "Brazillian Vomitorim" because I get so stuffed when I eat there. Ask them to make a Caipherina with vodka (instead of cashasa) and strawberries. It's like drinking liquid candy.

    Re: navigation destination input

you kidding me? we had caipherinas all night long!!!

    see you thursday.

    Re: navigation destination input

OK. I think we are changing the classroom. I'll email you when I know what the right room is.

    Re: navigation destination input

good deal. i sat through urban's class today (IP law). nice woman, seems intelligent...slowest pace in the entire world...(to which she kept referring to as "very fast paced"). and honestly, not a very exciting prof in any way.

    you know her?

    Re: navigation destination input

okay, you're all crazy...i just was in the car and i have NO CLUE where i can put the name of a restaurant in by typing it??? can somebody give my [censored] self a step-by-step???

I'm going from memory as I am out of town.
    1. Select Nav Option
    2. Select Destination Input
    3. Select POI
    4. Select by City (I think this is it)
    5. Select the POI where restaurants are (sorry I don't remember which one it is, maybe leisure)
    6. Type the name of the restaurant
    7. It will list all of the restaurants. It would be nice to sort by the one that is closest to you but it doesn't. You can scroll though the list and it will show you the distance from you to the restaurant.

    Re: navigation destination input

    okay, i just tried that.

but my order was slightly different:
    1. Select Nav Option
    2. Select Destination Input
    3. Select POI
    4. Select Category to choose Restaurants
    5. Select within city
    6. Now I get a long list of restaurants...

how do i input an actual name???

    thanks!

    Re: navigation destination input

    bump

    Re: navigation destination input

    Maoun,
After you select the city yoou should be able to enter the restaurant. The list will shorten as you type the restaurant name.

    Re: navigation destination input

mine doesn't give me a keyboard to do so? it merely gives me the list and no keyboard option whatsoever.

    thanks
    m.

    Re: navigation destination input

Hmm, what DVD version do you have? I believe mine says 2004. I'm out of town so I can't go to my car and verify how I input the names but I will on Friday. Maybe someone else can help out before then.

    Re: navigation destination input

    i think mine says 2005?

    Re: navigation destination input

Wow that is the new and improved. I added NAV to my car and bought the disc from http:\\www.navtech.com . There is a NAV update from Porsche but I don't have it. I believe it is suppose to allow you to search via zip code. Does your NAV have this? If you have the latest version maybe this feature is lost with the NAV update

    Re: navigation destination input

    Opps I mean http://www.navtech.com

    Re: navigation destination input

nav update from my Tequipment 911 book

"System and map update for navigation systems using data-format from Model Year 2005. Provides higher level of detail for the US, destination input with zipcode/postcode search, and integration with the optional electronic logbook. To find out which data version your PCM is using, please consult your local Porsche dealer. Part no. 000 044 900 89"

    Re: navigation destination input

i'll keep playing with it, but i genuinely think i need an update

can anybody else NOT input a restaurant by name?

    Re: navigation destination input

The "Nav update" that I have seen posted a few times....Has Porsche actually changed the appearance of the map.....cos the one I have looks absolutely cr@p!!! kind of like windows 3.11 meets a kid with crayons....Could someone post a picture of what the latest navigation map looks like (the one that allows zip code input). I think mine is the late 2004 DVD put out by Navtech. Thanks

I have the same DVD as you. What is it that looks bad to you? How would you like your NAV to look? I don't beleive the update changes the look of the map just gives you more features like zip code input. I have not heard of anything that changes the way the map looks. Have you played around with the settings?

    Re: navigation destination input

I'm comparing the map to the NAV in my BMW, and an aftermarket alpine NAV I have. The resolution and detail they show is significantly better the the Porsche....They also give you a distance to turn in yards/feet rather than a block that fills the closer you get to a turn. Because the resolution is poor on the Porsche I find that it isn't able to display the names of very many surrounding roads near one's current position, unless you zoom in on the scale....

    Re: navigation destination input

I have just installed the update and the map is almost identical, except it can show POI's and TMC traffic information. Not a great investment of Pounds340.....

Did you have to have the dealer install the update or can you do it yourself?

In early '05 NAV there is NO WAY to start typing the name...

VERY FRUSTRATING and makes this feature USELESS in large cities like LA and SF....

Re: In early '05 NAV there is NO WAY to start typing the name...

    agreed!!!
