    599 GTB

With the release of the 599 GTB Ferrari is presenting its most powerful V12-engined production car of all time.

Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari's Vice General Manager, officially announced the new model in occasion of the opening of the Detroit Motor Show on the 9th of January.

The new car is a concentration of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The result is a new benchmark for performance, driver involvement and design.

The Ferrari 599 GTB boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Enzo Ferrari supercar - which produces no less than 620hp at 7,600 rpm for a weight/power ratio of just 2.6 kg per horsepower.

Ferrari has adopted the latest evolution in its tried and tested all-aluminium construction technology for the body and chassis.

The unmistakable Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 599 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines which are perfectly integrated with the advanced aerodynamic solutions adopted to reach the performance figures attainable.

This new model is the symbol of Ferrari's production - the V12 berlinetta - and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.

The Ferrari 599 GTB replaces the last in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello, of which - together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - no fewer than 5,700 have been produced, a record for this type of model for the Prancing Horse.

The new car will be officially unveiled on the 28th of February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.

    Re: 599 GTB

Back seems a bit too long with respect to the whole proportions of the car.
But most of all, it seems to me the design of the car is too aggressive for a classy GT.
The elegance and the fluidity of the 550/ 575 has been lost IMO.
Having said that, maybe Ferrari wants the GT to be the 612 and this one a pure sports car, which would make sense with 620 hp! Crazy power figure!
And I thought the Carrera GT and Enzo were exclusive!

Interesting point: The girl's first reaction was pretty cool design, but after a few seconds, she vowed never to like Ferrari again.
Not that Americans are more puritans than other nationalities, Ron, you know L. and she's not particularly into fondamentalism Christianity, but she said a lot of Christian Americans will be outraged by the rim design which is the star of Satan.

I don't know about that to be honest, I don't dislike them, they are the same as the F50 and I don't think it made a scandal in the States but wait and see. Should be interesting to see how people react.

HAHAHA, I never thought of that!!

    Re: 599 GTB

I had the same thought about the wheels, but at least in Europe i think it won't be a problem.
I really find the wheels a work of art.

    Re: 599 GTB

This months car magazine has an artists impression pic of the 599 (obviously went into print before these official shots were released). Their design is more akin to a scaled down 612 with nicer headlights and more classic styling IMHO that would not date as quickly as this more controversial design undoutedly will. Their hood design, for example, looks a lot lessy fussy than the real thing and the side surface treatment has better, less contrived detailing. I'll reserve final judgement until I see the car in the metal but on this occassion I think the car mag went one better than Pininfarina.

    Hey fanch,

I never noticed the rims but she is right . Nonetheless, the over all design is very disappointing to me. BMW is not alone anymore .

Bring on the turbo Porsche, bring it on

    Gary,

I don't believe the point was to really bash Ferrari because of their rim design. If you'd met her you'd know she is really funny and witty.

Definitely extreme though I agree. But the detail jumped to her eye. I personally don't mind.
I find them rather beautiful actually.
What bothers me is that the Front engined Ferrari has always been a beautiful car, an elegant car, an understated classy car.
This one is extreme! Makes the F430 look beautiful which IMHO is already a tortured Modena!
My Fefe friends have indeed seen it in the flesh in Maranello and are not too impressed so far. We'll see.
It definitely has presence! But I guess the amateur of the classy front engined V12 Ferrari GT will have to shop somewhere else now.

    The performance figures are astonishing!
I guess they won't be released until the official unveiling on feb 28th, but with 620 hp and a estimated weight of "just" 1612 kg, performance should be class-leading.
I think under 4 and over 200 are key figures here...

    Re: 599 GTB

I remember hearing somewhere to expect a topspeed of ca. 340kph!

F666 would fit the wheel design...

You don't actually believe the claimed 620hp and 1612 kg will ever be verified by any independent sources w/any production-spec 599s???????? I thought some US rag weighed a 612 at 4300lb+, so 599 will likely be 4000lb+ (1820kg-ish)....Italian engineers seem to calc hp and kg/lbs a bit more "optimistically" than others.....

You really don't like the design?

I think the car looks great on the pics and will be even better in flesh. I've seen high res pics of the three official pics and you can see a lot of neat details there, I think they all go together very well. I think we have a great styling for the next couple of years.

Some data of the new wheels:

    front 245/40 ZR 19
    rear 305/35 ZR 20

    Re: 599 GTB

BTW, car seems to have Enzo-style steering wheel wiht LEDs in the upper part of the wheel.
