    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Just made a telephone call to my hairdresser and stated to HER - that if she does not part ex up her Cayman for a 997S she is not touching my hair ever again..

    She said ""thank goodness"" ..

    B**CH !! ..

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

There's no denying this is the 997 forum eh? Sometimes I see the Cayman and don't like it(ie, the first pics in this thread) other times I think it's a beautiful car, albeit slightly quirky(ie, the yellow pic in this thread).

The 997 is beautiful, but certain times I see them and think they look bland, especially with Carrera Classics or Sport Designs. There are less things on the 997 that I dislike than there are on the Cayman, but all this 'gayman' BS is just that, both cars have their good and bad points asthetically. I'm under 30, and in the pic above the Cayman does kinda look more modern.

luko , did you get my PM ? ..

If you did disregard it because it was boring its no sweat..

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Cayman is not a bad looking car, just not a good deal for me as I would rather pay a little more and get a 997, or a little less for a Boxster S for convertible cruising.

However I do not mind waiting 3 to 4 years and get a pre-owned one as a track car.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Disregard what, the car or your PM?

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Here's an idea. The Cayman is definitely an interesting car to look at. I'm not instantly attracted to it I'm not repelled by it. If they gave it another name would that change people's reception of it?

If they called it the Porsche [---------] would it look better? IOW, how does the name effect YOUR appreciation of the car?

I just can't get the image of an actual cayman out of my head when I see the Cayman.

I am not having a go here its just that as soon as I see it I thought it belongs to a lady driver , even the daughter agreed and she also like it..

Lol ,, whats I also find funny is how can ones opinion have a bad influence on a potential buyer , if it does that must mean the buyer is not sure themselves..

If I want it and like it thats end of story..

I saved this pic because the 997 looks wonderful..

The choice is a personal thing and personal opinions is what makes any board work and keep on working..

For me the choice is a no brainer , just look at the shell and the stance of both vehicles..

I like the cayman, but every time I see a side view of it, cant help but think that if you draw a vertical line through the car where the air scoops are on the side (rear), the back looks so much like an Audi TT its scary. Havent seen one live yet so dont have a strong opinion yet.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I sat in a Cayman at the dealer this week. I liked it better in person but still much prefer my 997. To be fair, in the pics above, both vehicles should be the same color for a true comparo me thinks.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

side veiw of the cayman is even more simular to the 996. (front end)

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

The front and rear of the Cayman looks very nice. I think the hard top just seems to make the car look less appealing from the side view- seems to make it look shorter? The Boxster is a much nicer looking car overall. Of course, I'm sure the Cayman is an outstanding performer.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

The 911 looks better to me, but I don't understand why. Looking at them side by side, it seems that the front ends are basically identical (except for the headlamps and grills which we know to be slightly different). So the differences have to be aft of the windshield really. I think the Cayman looks more compact, and it doesn't have all that car sticking out behind the rear wheels, yet the 911 looks better . . .

Is it just because I am so used to the look of the 911, or that the 911 has a look that has grown on me over the years, while the Cayman hasn't?

I wonder if the Cayman S had a 3.8 L 380 hp engine and -20 mm suspension with LSD, might we all think it looks better?

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

My Cayman will look a bit like this, which looks kinda cool to me !

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

luko I agree , I think it looks nice and I hope you dont think I was giving it a hard time yesterday . Any opinion given by me is on a non-personal level , believe me . Early indications on this car make it out to be brilliant thrilling drive and I have no doubt that all buyers shall be very happy , I want them to for sure..

Good luck , enjoy in good health and congrats bud ..

Sounds like a good basis for a consulting form. "Uncertainty Tamed Incorporated," people call and face a panel of "experts" who try to talk callers out of whetever they're planning. I'll do THAT as a career change. Maybe eventually whole governments will call in.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Since we're talking opinions about aesthetics - I really don't like the Cayman (when compared with the 997). The front and rear aren't cohesive. However, the Techart Cayman has been the only one that has impressed me - more so than the Techart 997.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Yep vtach , Techart really know there stuff and it does look so much better .

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I disagree a little bit...of course. The Cayman could have been the perfect product but Porsche wasn't curageous enough. The rear is too Boxster like, same for the interior. And of course there are other things I would have done differently.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Cayman is good enough as it is.

If they gave it a more powerful engine, a limited slip diff and its own distinct interior Porsche would charge even more for it.

IMO, they strategically decided to back off of it a bit. The Caymanish concept could be the answer to the perfect P/sports car but they obviously don't want to cannibalize the 911. Once again they find themselves restricted by the heritage of the 911, IMO. Time will tell if P decides to break loose of the 911, rear engine bond. Somehow I doubt it. The only thing that will change it is if financially it does not make sense to keep the rear engine thing going but that would represent a huge departure.

I have now heard from Porsche sources on two continents that:
    1. The next 911 will look quite different from all 911s that have gone before, with some Carrera GT visual characteristics.
    2. The next 911 will be mid-engined.
    3. The new design was signed off about 4 months ago.

Of course they could all be wrong but I rather think that the current layout and shape is due for something more than another evolutionary change.
It will take some time before any of this can be confirmed or denied - but just remember this when it is.

Wow! My head is spinning thinking about whether I should now buy a "classic" 911 rather than Cayman S. So maybe the Automobile magazine writer who referenced the possibility that Porsche would develop a mid-engined 911 in the future also heard what you did. You need to make this a sticky, KenH.
