    The Cayman Rocks!!

Just saw the Cayman at the LA Auto Show and I must say it looks fantastic in person. While it doesn't match the o'l 997 it sure is a close second.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

    yuck!

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Why, oh why would they have the launch car with Boxster S wheels??????????

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Look how high it sits (first pic)..

Multi spoke rims suits it best and needs to be lowered desperately ,, -20mm at least..

    Jmo..

Forever in the 911's shadow....This thing will look so dated within, ohhhh....6 months....

I'd take a Boxster over this.

I don't think it will, if anything the curves of the Cayman make the 997 look a little dated IMO.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

Nice pics. I have yet to drive one but can't wait. Looks good to me.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

This picture (thanks luko) reveals something. Like if you were a Japanese automaker and wanted to rip off the Carerra look without getting a lawsuit. How different would the cars have to look? I think this gives a hint of the answer.

As with all rip-offs, the original is always the best. Why? because if the original weren't successful, there wouldn't be any rip-offs.

The photo shows the grace and elegance of the 911 compared to the lanky, immature "Carrera-in-the-larval-stage" Cayman.

    Shot THAT to H*ll, huh?

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I like both cars, 997 most, but have to say in that picture. I prefer the Cayman.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

what color is that cayman ?

You might have a good point. I think the Cayman looks more "modern" possibly trendy. For you younger guys maybe it DOES "look more like a car should look like" since you weren't brought up with the same car-looks as us old timers (I'm mid 40s).

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I remember when I was invited to critique the Cayman early last year. The Cayman was sitting next to the 997, with exactly the same color. In every aspect from every angle, I thought that the 997 looked better. Not to say that the Cayman was bad looking, although I didnt' care for the looks at the time, but I thought the 997 design was cleaner and more attractive.

Compleeeeetely with you on that one.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

The Cayman looks crap. if I had enough money for a Cayman I would save a few quid and buy a Boxster which is leagues ahead in the looks department, just as fast, a convertible and a load cheaper.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I agree- just don't see any attraction the Cayman would have over the Boxster!

Gayman is stiffer because of coupe monocoque (not that there's anything wrong with that) . BUT I'm with you guys, if you're gonna get a Boxster it SHOULD have a convertible (roadster) top.

It is Cobalt Blue. If I am not mistaken about this press car, it has PCCB, Carrera Classic 19' wheels, no PASM and grey leather interior.

I feel exactly the same! The Cayman looks good in Guard Reds, GT Silver and particularly in Cobalt.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

    I like them both

    How do you know, MMD?

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I like the 997 much more than the Cayman , it has the cleaner curves and is so much more sleek .. Funny enough just got back from a drive out to a Audi dealer and on the way back I spotted loads of 996,s then out of the blue a 997S appeared and jeeps what a difference , this car really has something that the pics cant pick up on . Also fyi (uk) I ask about the RS4 and was told it hits the showroom floors in March and the wait for one would be around 6 months , do like the buld quality on these Audi's ..

    Jmo ..

Read a review in car mags. The theory is a hardtop (coupe) keeps the twist out of the rest of the monocoque.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I for one have made a decision that I am not going to bash the Cayman anymore. As I have said before, I think the Cayman is the new 968 - destined to be out of production in a few years because of low sales. That doesn't make it a bad car. I'm just making a statement about the market position of the car and relative price.

As to aesthetics, I find the Cayman to be fugly. But that's a personal thing. I know there are people who think the 911 is ugly. I think they are nuts. But you can't argue about aesthetics.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

I saved this pic because the 997 looks wonderful..

The choice is a personal thing and personal opinions is what makes any board work and keep on working..

For me the choice is a no brainer , just look at the shell and the stance of both vehicles..

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

    Hard to disagree with throt.

    Re: The Cayman Rocks!!

The Cayman is the PERFECT name for the car because the car LOOKs like that animal. Medium stature, compact, thin, agile, efficient shape (not necessarily elegant shape) etc etc, the NAME of the car is PERFECT for what it looks like, don't you think? They did too good a job, IMHO.

It's almost too HONEST a name. Because frankly, the Cayman is NOT among the most beautiful animals around. (too bad jag-u-ar is taken?).

    Kinda proves and/or disproves Shakespere's "What's in a name?"
