Limited. It is just an empty marketing word. The 918 it also special. The R not.

    I would put it differently:

The 918 is very special and the R is special but could become less special once Porsche decides to offer the GT3 tech in a non-limited 911 RS for example. Smiley Or a 911 S, whatever. Or even simpler: They could offer a wing delete option for the 991.2 GT3 and the 911 R is basically "done" as a special model Smiley (although I still think that it is going to be valuable as a collectible.). I am curious if the marketing department at Porsche decided to offer that wing delete option, it would make a lot of sense and add new customers to the GT3 customer base.

+1 - just the fact, that the 991.2 GT3 will be again a combustion and not a Turbo will give a huge impact to it.

They say it will match the GT4's acceleration and wild handling, a lot of chest hair is required and probably Porsche will do a test for chest scanning before your order goes through Smiley

I guess Porsche does not want to repeat the mistake when selling the GT4 to girliemen who could not tame its wild Motorsport derived handling and engine.

That it will match the GT4's physics-defying acceleration is clearly a Rennlist rumor with no anchor in reality.

Off to trim my chest hair...

I was hoping for the wing to look more like on previous GT2RS instead of this "track only" GT3RS monster.

I think it will, those ram air intakes are trademark 3/6/7GT2 and make a nice difference for the turbocharged engine by altering the pressure in the airbox and adding efficiency to the turbos, this "GT3/Cup" style wing is for test mule only although presumably the aero is being developed with this sized wing characteristics so its still going to be a relative whopper Smiley

Look at the engine lid air intake, this is far from final, so I guess this will be more like the .1 GT3 RS if the side air intakes are a go.

On the other hand, 993 had them on the GT2 race car as well. With the side air intakes in the read fenders on 991 I'd consider intakes on the side of the wing as drag rather than performance boost and none of the 991 racecars featured something like that.

But maybe those who have seen pictures can tell more

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

The car on the photos is a test mule but the final product will look quite impressive but not aftermarket impressive, don't worry. It won't be an elegant looking car though.

Re: 991 GT2 RS (2017) - Rumors, speculations and gossip Thread Closed

I suspect the GT2RS will use the side intakes for intercoolers as in on the Turbos, but with a central raised intake on the rear deck lid like on the .2 GT3 for air.

A turbo car needs some extra air after all.

I know, although old GT2RS was impressive too with it's more subdued but still large wing.

Autocar: "2017 Porsche 911 GT3 to get 4.0-litre flat six engine..." (...plus details on GT2 RS and GT4 RS...)

Set to be revealed at the Geneva show in March, the 2017 911 GT3 will get a power increase to more than 500bhp, up from the 475bhp of its predecessor

    (18 January 2017)

The new Porsche 911 GT3 that's due to be launched at the Geneva motor show in March will have a 4.0-litre flat six engine, according to a well-informed source close to the factory. It will not be the same 4.0-litre engine that's found in the current GT3 RS and 911 R, but an evolution capable of producing "at least" the same 500bhp and up from the 475bhp of the last ‘standard’ GT3.

The main focus of the development work has been to improve further the durability of the engine, resulting in a motor that "has done thousands of kilometres, absolutely flat out, with no problems at all".

As already speculated, the 991-generation GT3 will be available for the first time with a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. A plan to stiffen the suspension and make a much more hardcore product has apparently been dropped in favour of a more user-friendly set-up, in line with traditional GT3 thinking.

Meanwhile, work continues apace on the forthcoming GT2 RS, which "should be ready by the end of the year", our source said.

Initially Porsche engineers were looking for a massive power gain, even compared with the 612bhp of the original 2010 GT2 RS, but a plan to realise 700bhp was sidelined when it became clear the engine would need a water injection system to keep internal temperatures under control.

Instead, engineers are believed to have settled on an output of around 650bhp, almost 90bhp more than the engine produces in the current 911 Turbo S. That would provide for a specific output of more than 170bhp per litre.

Another source confirmed that this would be the last outing for the engine, which is based on previous-generation technology, and that the next Turbo would be based on the new flat sixes seen in the current 911 Carrera, S and GTS, but with an enlarged capacity.

After the GT2 RS, the next GT model will be a Cayman GT4 RS, complete with a 4.0-litre engine. So fast is the current four-cylinder Cayman S that Porsche officials privately concede that, if shod with an equivalent tyre, it would be as quick around the Nürburgring as the existing Cayman GT4, so a big performance leap is expected.

Clearly it won’t have the full 500bhp-plus provided to the new GT3, but expect an output of at least 430bhp, a clear 50bhp rise over the Cayman GT4 and more than enough to establish a clear performance margin to lesser, non-GT Cayman models.
