    anyone own an SLK55? ownership vs 996tt

    I am on the waiting list for a slk55 and was wondering if anyone here has driven / owns / or will own one a SLK55.

    It is for daily driver + highway + occassional heavy city traffic(probably Tip 996tt)

    In Aus , prices for 200-2001 996tt have come down to within (AUS)$10K of slk55 ownership.I have driven a 993tt but not 996tt yet.Prefer looks and warranty of 996tt.Will keep either car for at least 5 years.

    genuinely interested in constructive comments about pros vs cons.

    first of all as an everyday car, the 996tt has got very very HARD suspension setup! when i was in australia, in the city the roads are fairly good so you don't need to worry about it like i do! but a SLK55 is rather comfy, even my SL55 is comfy compared to a 996tt! the tt's storage space is similar to the SLK55 so no real differences there. another thing you can't compare the SLK's performance in general to a 996tt, the tt is just miles and miles ahead in that department!

    996tt but in a manual! only porsche i'll accept in auto is the cayenne there are just too many SLK's driving around here already, takes the magic away from the car why drive a mercedes when you can drive a legend!

    It really depends what you want. A sports car or a true sports car. The SLK55 auto tranny is first class, very nice and very fast. But once you go 911 Turbo, you never go back.
    I don't think the suspension is too harsh but I think this is a matter of personal preference.
    Maybe you should drive a SLK55 first and then the 996 TT. You'll be surprised. The SLK55 ESP is very intrusive, the 996 TT has traction, traction and traction without limits...and the PSM (ESP) lamp doesn't come on very often.
    Also the 996 TT has more interior room.

    But the SLK55 isn't bad at all, very nice engine, extremely sexy exhaust sound, very good automatic tranny and quality seems to be OK too. I just hated the steering and the traction problems when driven hard or on wet pavement.

    I would get the 996TT. I love the look of that car, and come on, it's a Porsche!! It's the ultimate daily driver.

    I have driven the SLK55 on two occassions so far, but not long enough to determine whether I could live with it as a daily driver.Steering was so so,interior a little spartan, the acceleration was sensational.I am eagerly looking around for a suitable 996tt to test drive, but its bucketing down rain in Sydney at the moment...perfect conditions for the 996tt, but not if you are test driving it(maybe for the prospective purchaser but not for the owner).Extra room in TT might be useful, although we have an Rx330 you never know with two kids when you might need extra space in the second car.I note that you have a 997S ..do you have a need for child seats? Would you swap your 997 for a 2-3 year old 996tt?

    I love the look of the 996tt as well especially in seal grey or silver or black or red or...

    As a daily driver though, I amn ot sure, most of the 01-02's I have seen have 10-30K on the clock and have been weekend cars.I have nearly 200k on my C36 and if I bought the SLK55, I would probably keep it as a daily driver.Not sure about the 996tt till I drive it.

    I figured you would all like to see this encouraging article from Motor Trend - the Porsche's handling ends up being the determining factor in finishing the test course faster than the SLK55 AMG.

    does it come with the ugly looking ariel that looks like a walkie talkie's? and the SL mod being the short stubby ariel?

    good post.Fpr me the Boxster S should be compared to the SLK350 not the 55.Other than better track handling, the SLK55 has by far more aces up its sleave: vario roof and incredible in gear acceleration that the Boxster can't touch.

    you're thinking about the BMW shark fin aerial, thanks for telling me about my spelling error

    thanks about the wall lol, i'm also currently adding on to the house

    yes the CLk is slow though so i don't really drive it, more of a backup vehicle, we bought our employee an SLK200 last year and i drove that thing around a little, was quite fun
