Not true actually 
It is an AMG product in the sense that it was built by AMG people with AMG parts and setup
But never became an official AMG product. Could have been fun though to have a monster A-class roaming the streets 
Can't remember if they built 1 or 2 of them, but the price is just horrendous due to its very limited production. As far as I recall it was for sale for more than 300K Euros in Germany a while ago!

I have to disappoint you again, AMG is not H.W.A. and this car has been built by H.W.A..
H.W.A. does some development work (especially building prototypes) for AMG/DC and represents the Team AMG in the DTM (Deutsche Touring Meisterschaft) but it is not AMG.
H.W.A. is run by Hans Werner Aufrecht, the A in the brand name AMG.
H.W.A. isn't a part of AMG anymore since DC took over the majority of AMG in 1999.
It is a seperate company, even if it is next door to AMG in Affalterbach.
As far as I know, H.W.A. actually is the racing devision of Mercedes but some people still think it is AMG.
As far as I heard, this car was never for sale.
BTW: I'm not so impressed with this car.
From 0-200 kph it needs 20.2 seconds, almost 3 seconds longer than the SLK 32 AMG.
Weight is 1665 kg, way too much.
It is indeed a nice toy but nothing more.
I'm happy AMG never built a AMG A-class, this would have been really ridiculous.
