I specced an AMG GT R (incl. ceramic brakes, etc...), ended up at the exact same 230k CHF. A bit more car for the money I'd say.

That said, CH prices remain ridiculous, the same car is €185k on the German configurator, at the current rate that should be CHF198k. Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

Christian, I have also heard the 991.2 PSE and it does not sound pretty good at all. Louder doesn't mean it sounds good, at least not to everybody. Its a bottled monotone only exhaust sound now, it lost its fullness and its sounds like any other ordinary car with an aftermarket exhaust, doesn't make it sound good just because it gets louder.

Also the sport sound is not consistent, it tends to sound a lot when the car is stopped or moving very slowly in first gear, but then as you speed it disappears only to appear again on certain situations, its strange. Not to mention the completely exaggerated artificial overrun popping and farting that is even worse then in the 991.1 which is already too much.

So to me the sound is not only about quantity of sound but also the quality. Some people may not notice and be fine with it but to others it will just sound ordinary, its not a sporstcar sound its just an exhaust induced only sound like when you stick a an aftermarket exhaust to a non sportscar.

Carlos, I didn't say it sounds as good as the 991.1 PSE but it sounds better than people think and definitely much better than the 911 Turbo/Turbo S sounds. Also no comparison to the crappy 718 sound.

Give me quiet over crappy any day. If the engine is going to sound meh, I'd rather it was just silent.

...but part of owning a "sportscar" is pure Sound isn't it ? Nobody here makes Money or feels better with "being faster" than a previous model etc - I think companies underestimate how important it is for the older Generation. Maybe a 18 year old has different priorities These days....

Sure, if we compare it to the 718 or the 991 Turbo, I agree, but it sounds bad for a Carrera which is what the 991.2 with PSE is.

If you think Carrera/PSE, then this one sounds very bad, and while its better than the std exhaust system, even with PSE it doesn't qualify as "good" to me.

The new RS3 and TT RS sound actually quite good...maybe minus that (a bit exaggerated) crackling sound (especially RS3). All the other new cars in the price segment below 100k or so sound like crap indeed.

I have some hopes though: Apparently some manufacturers are trying to create a good sound without exceeding the next legal sound emissions levels. Don't know how this works but I am curious.

I could see how a Porsche high tech monster could tempt me, even if it sounds meh but I am pretty sure I would get bored soon. Smiley I am too spoiled right now (R8) and I'm afraid it won't be easy to make me like something new, even with 800 hp Smiley if it sounds crappy. The sound is something you can enjoy at any speed, the 800 hp not so much.

Not for me. I listen to music or talk to the passenger.  Buy for looks mainly.

A lot of people born today maybe never even drive.

do you really think a quite loaded GT3 would be worth 163k ?

This sounds a lot .... I wold have more bet into 155k fully loaded.

But may be you have more insights ....interested to get it now :-).

the moment to spec it is closer and closer anyhow .....

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

Just remember, the cost is only determined when you sell it. The question of whether or not a car is worth it can't be determined without knowing residuals. GT3 residuals have been very high in recent years making them more worth it than many super high end exotics.

Prices in CH are without the Euro bonus . That one is calculated newly every week according to the exchange rate and will be deducted when you make the configuration at the dealer .

I don't know why they keep working like that . It gives a false idea of the real price .

x3, most of the time I'm not driving in Sport Mode only because it's embarrassing to make all that loud poping and farting every time you let of the throttle at any speed or gear for nothing, you could be driving in the city normally and you look like a boy racer looking for attention.

Fortunately you can still activate the PSE without the poping if you drive on normal mode, as the poping is only activated in Sport mode, but still I would prefer to be in Sport mode than normal mode most of the time because of how the PDK changes, throttle response, etc.

This only started in the 991.1, the 997 or 996 didn't do it, and now in the .2 its even worse.

Agreed, last time I was in London there was an idiot driving his F-Type R up and down the streets, farting and popping as much as possible. Even to a petrolhead it sounded horrible, I can only imagine what it sounds like for regular people. Smiley

The farting disappears when driving in sport+. If driving in sport, the farting is very noticeable and honestly embarrassing. As a result, I use only sport +.

So why does porsche use a turbo rather than a supercharger? Or doesn't a supercharger yield as much efficiency gain as a turbo? Cause I think a supercharger would not have the same bad exhaust sound, would it?

I believe most brands do it . And it comes automatically , you don t even have to ask . My RS was listed at over 220k , but the real price was under 210k . And each time I made a change , the price changed as to the exchange rate at that given moment .

They probably do it while still waiting for the Euro/CH exchange rate to go back to 1.20 or 1.30 , not wanting to adapt officially the price  because if it goes up, it will be harder to explain the price increases . Just making a smaller, or dropping, the euro bonus is easier .

I don't mind de popping and fasting when there is a reason . Accelerating to red line  and braking hard on twisty roads makes sense to have some burble in the exhaust  . But when driving at 50 km/h and downshifting and you hear all that poping and farting has no sense but to make the car looks like a boy racer . At GT3 or GT3 RS does not make that kind of noise .  It is even worse on the Audi RS3 or the AMG 45 . I hope this faschion get dropped soon .

I like a good sound and it has to be there but it has to me in line with what the engine does .

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

While the new 991.2 GTS probably will be a high quality piece of kit, one is left cold by it and considers, strangely, the new Audi TT RS a worthy competitor as a daily driver.  While such a statement may appear, at first glance, sacrilegious there is a of bit logic imposed.  The Audi TT RS, while having the engine in the wrong position and being based on the MQB platform found in more pedestrian Volkswagens, and Skodas, and Seats,...is less than half the price of the new GTS, yet provides over 90% of the performance.  Furthermore, as an everyday driver, the hatchback configuration is more practical.   Add the more entertaining exhaust sound and the the pendulum, as least for one, tips toward the Audi, sadly, not toward the Porsche.

The new RS3, as many have mentioned above, is a bit more rambunctious in exhaust tone by design to attract a younger demographic.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

It's no surprise that a less expensive car delivers 90% as much as the GTS on some metrics.  Hasn't that always been true in the marketplace?  Aren't there also more expensive cars than a GTS (within and outside the brand) that deliver only slightly more than a GTS (or maybe not even as much)?

Having a wide spectrum of choice among performance cars (from cheap to extremely expensive) is great.  For some, GTS is the sweet spot, for some it's the TTRS, and for others it's a Bentley, etc.).  We all get to choose how best to spend our money...
