It definitely is more work to keep it clean, but it looks so damn good, elegant and nasty... I wash mine maybe once every 2-3 weeks, keep it garaged of course, and used Griot's Speed Shine on the in-between days. It works wonders, literally 5 minutes with a microfiber towel and your done.. easily takes off that layer of 'dust' so easily seen on a black car after a day of driving. You definitely DO NOT need to wash the whole car when it gets dusty/dirty! Check out the link "wash 997s", there are some excellent posts and shortcuts on keeping our cars 'perfect'..

I have to say, whoever says that the 4S humps are not noticeable should get a good pair of glasses. I have seen a couple on the street and looked amazing.
Black is a great looking color although hard to keep clean, but if you don't mind that, it looks awesome.
I think that the only advantage of basalt black is that it appears to me easier to keep clean.

I prefer black over basalt. To me, as I have said previously on this board, basalt has an identity crisis - doesn't really know if its black, or if its dark gray. It also looks like someone scattered a teenager's glitter face paint on the surface. Nothing can touch the warm, deep color of true black. If you have the time to maintain the paint then I recommend you go for it. You'ee see EVERYTHING dust, hairline scratches, dust, dirt you didn't even know existed, etc.

i have a 997 s black it s the best choise nice and not expensive because it s an option.at the delivery it s a mirror and very class and classic color but after dusty road and rain or small country road if you want to wasch your car you scrath the paint . sorry for my english

My baby in Basalt. Benefits over Black are :- obviously it's metallic and therefore slightly lighter than pure black. Easier to keep clean. Still understated but classy. Also less around than Silver or Seal.

Black is a fantastic colour to have IMHO, in fact this thread made me phone the dealer on tuesday this week to see if I could change my order from Seal to Basalt - No joy however - my car rolled of the production line TODAY!!!!....only 7 more weeks...only 7 more weeks...only 7 more weeeeeks...........
