    987 17's on 987S?

Will the standard 987 17" wheel fit on the 987S? I believe the brakes may be too large to fit within the 17" wheel.......?

    Re: 987 17's on 987S?

The brakes on the 987S is only 318mm in diameter, shouldn't be a problem for 17s...

    Re: 987 17's on 987S?

the real question rsgl, is that would fitting the 17" be better in terms of acceleration while giving up some sort of road holding capabilities?

    Re: 987 17's on 987S?

According to my dealership in Sweden it is not possible to fit 17" on a 987S! I had to buy 18" for my winter wheels.

    Re: 987 17's on 987S?

OIC better trust the dealer than me! Coz here in HK will never snows...

Why would you want to fit 17" wheels?

Good question. I can't believe Porsche sells a car with a tire that has 50% widewall. Sehr traurig! My Mom's 1994 Cadillac had 50% sidewalls.

    Re: 987 17's on 987S?

Why would one want to fit 17's? This question is worthy of its own thread IMHO.

Many Porsche drivers seek ultimate acceleration, ultimate cornering power. There is another sort of ultimate performance to be had from a Porsche however; that of the ultimate everyday driver. This was the nature of the earlier Porsche.

The ultimate in agility is the primary virtue in this realm, but survivability is another. The streets of NYC are hard on a car. A little more sidewall protects the rim. A full-speed spare tire is another requirement, sadly lacking in the modern Porsche.

While with a greater sidewall the car may generate less lateral G's, street use doesn't require ultimate cornering power.

    That's why......my 2 cents.

...also if you autocross you have more choices in 17" "R" tires and they are cheaper and both wheel and tire are lighter!
