    CLUTCH + RMS

    My 4S is going in for a clutch change, should I bother chaging the RMS to the new redesigned seal? My car has 50,000 km on it with no leaks.

    Service centre also said that they may need to change the Flywheel, is this normal? They gave me an estimate of about $1500 for total works including clutch + flywheel + labor.

    If it ain't broke don't fix it. No, don't change the rms unless it's leaking. Yes, it's common to change the flywheel at time of clutch/pressure plate change. That's a good price.

    Do not touch the seal unless there is a problem and it is NOT normal to change the flywheel when you change the clutch. Furthermore, the $1500 for all parts and loabor that INCUDES the flywheel is not correct. The clutch kit will cost you $550+ and the flywheel will be another $900 or there abouts. Sounds like you are quoting just the cost of parts. There is NOT a need to replace the flywheel unless it is damaged. Even then, it can be turned down if nedd be, but generally, you don't even need to touch the flywheel when changing the clutch for the forst time. You should get 50,000 MILES minimum out of your clutch.

    I agree you don't need to change the flywheel, but it's often done. As far as turning down a flywheel, I believe PAG frowns on that, as it may weaken the flywheel.

    well the car is going in on wednesday. the guy there told me that they MIGHT need to change the Flywheel if damaged. This is the first time clutch is being changed. car has only 50,000km on it. Changing the clutch alone with labor estimate given was + - $900. flywheel is an aditional $600 according to porsche centre.

    Finally changed the clutch, cost me $1000. Service centre said flywheel was still ok.

    I probably need a new clutch at 30K here... Still trying to figure out why... Trip to the dealer soon.

    Every 20,000 is a bit steep.. Dealer told me 50k - 70k is the average life of a clutch. How many times did u change the flywheel?

    If he's changing his clutch every 20,000 km, you should buy an automatic or learn how to drive.

    It's incredible to change the clutch so early
    It must be in good conditions at last by 150.000 kms

    I have 80k miles on my 964 and still the original clutch....

    Follow up: new clutch was replaced at 30K (20K miles), at least the flywheel was still good...

    They said it was just regular use, I didn't think it was driven that hard. Anyway small price to pay for the blessing of owning such a great car
