    Do Porsche AG consider the Cayman a Boxster variant?

    Reading a Porsche press release about their performance in financial year 2005-2006, it would seem Porsche themseleves consider the Cayman S a Boxster variant. See below

    ... Porsche perpetuated its success during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2005/06. According to preliminary figures, during the period August 1 to November 30, 2005, Group turnover rose by 6.7 per cent to 2.02 billion Euros compared to the same period in fiscal year 2004/05. Group sales increased by 8.5 per cent to 25,635 vehicles. Sports cars once again fueled the growth. Sales of the 911 grew by 11.4 per cent to 9,439 units. The Boxster, including the first sales of the Cayman S, also enjoyed strong growth, posting an increase of 179.4 per cent to 4,998 vehicles......

    Of course they do. Why are you surprised? The Cayman S is a 987-120 as far as I know and even on the Porsche press site, the Boxster and Cayman are in the same column.

    Personally I don't see the Cayman as a Boxster with a roof, that's a naive view. Clearly it's not. Boxster owners see it that way because the Cayman is more expensive(imo), 911 owners probably don't agree with the above because of the reverse.

    It's obviously a car in the Boxster familiy, but it's not simply a boxster with a roof. If you say that you may aswell say the Carrera S is simply a Carrera with an 'S' printed on the boot lid.

    I am not in the least surprised. I have always considered the Cayman to be a Boxster coupe and have one on order based on that expectation. I posted the quote to let those who consider it to be something more see that Porsche AG themselves would appear to disagree.

    It is not because you paid MORE that you will get MORE !!
    In my HONEST opinion, you paid more and will get LESS, TRUE that's my opinion, but I wouldn't trade in my Boxey for NO CAYMAN, NO WAY !!
    If YOU waited for a Boxster Coupe than I'm happy for you that Porsche finally built one, REALLY !!
    For the others who believe ALL Porsche Marketing BS that they are buying "A BETTER CAR" and therefore should PAY more, KEEP ON DREAMING..., HeHeHe...!!!
    My Boxster S A Girl's Car ?? SO WHAT, I LOVE IT !!

    Oh, BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO you ALL, EVEN to the Followers of the ALL NEW "MAN'S Version" of The GIRL'S Car
