    New $150K Porsche Watch

From the NY Post, whose owner ONLY buys Ferraris in TDF Blue with Tobacco Brown interiors comes this news...

"December 8, 2005 -- Time is on the side of free-spending Porsche lovers.

A $150,000 titanium Porsche watch - the world's first with a digital automatic chronograph - will be unveiled today at Tourneau on Madison Avenue.

Each watch has 800 moving parts and takes a week to create - only 50 are made each year.

The watch will be sold at Porsche Design's new flagship Manhattan boutique, which is set to open this February at Madison Avenue and 59th St.

The store is part of a new group of interactive Porsche Design stores around the world that use technology in unique ways."

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

    where's the bloody picture!?!?!

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

To just see its picture costs 12K.

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

    this?

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

It's made by Eterna. I believe this is also the CGT watch. If I'm not mistaken, the back of the case has the design of the CGT's 5 spoke rim on it.

    Cheers,
    -Nick

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

If you think $150K is expensive, just wait until you start adding options.
You don't want to know the price for a ceramic composite minute hand or carbon fibre inserts for the band.

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

am just wonering who the heck would pay $150k for an Eterna watch w/out pedigree????

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

Take that money and spend it on a Breguet....

Take that money and buy a 997TT... I just don't understand what drives seemingly normal people to buy a 100.000-dollar watch...

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

Think that's expensive? - Take alook at these!!

The similar mentality that drives seemingly normal people to buy a $100k car...

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

Does it make the car go any faster?

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

and I thought paying over sticker for a 430 was a bit much ............

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

Many of the watches on the forbes list had the wrong MSRP much much higher than actual retail value

    Jim,

Actually, I bought a $150,000 Porsche time piece last summer: Sure, it was set in a twin-turbocharged 911Cab with black exterior, black leather interior, PCCB and heated seats-but it was $150,000 and tells time, nonetheless.

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

This is so typical of the current Porsche marketing philosophy- Take an above average technology and make it sound like it is some super human design accomplishment. Kinda like with 8k+ PCCB brakes.

Heck, for 150k, I'd expect the watch to take 2 years to make- one week isnt such a big deal.

HA! It's only water resistant to 50 meters. What amazing technology!

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

I wonder how much this Porsche watch will depreciate.

If it is anything like the CGT or the rest of the Porsche line, it should be worth half its value within a year.

'depreciation' assumes one could find a willing buyer... not sure what sucker would pay $75k for a 2nd hand Porsche chrono watch?!

We discussed this watch more than a year ago, but I guess it hasn't been available (at least in the US) until now:

Without pedigree?? Now there's a good way to offend a Eterna owner, like myself

    From the Eterna website:

    Quote:
The company Eterna can look back on a long history marked by pioneering spirit, innovation and great technical achievements. With the launch of the first Eterna watch in 1876, the founder Urs Schild set the cornerstone for a success story. As a manufacture, Eterna concentrates on the new wristwatch market. The launch of the worldwide first automatic watch with a winding rotor mounted on ball bearings sets new standards in the history of time measurement. Under the direction of Dr. Rudolf Schild Comtesse, other milestones of the watchmaking art are developed and launched in the market between 1932 and 1971. Eterna's answer to the new requirements on design and engineering are innovative and technically superb products. Prof. F.A. Porsche, renowned for his Porsche design, acquires the company Eterna in 1995. Since then, watches are developed and produced in close cooperation with designers, watchmakers and engineers, which carry the traditional heritage on to the future.

The fine art of watchmaking has always been an integral part and the driving force behind the company culture of Eterna since its foundation in 1856. Since 150 years, the Swiss watchmakers of Eterna are driven by a combination of traditional craftsmanship and pioneering spirit in creating and developing masterpieces with great dedication and sensitiveness. This relentless search for innovations was at the root of groundbreaking developments which set new standards for the fine art of watchmaking. So the watchmakers of Eterna succeeded in 1930 in creating what was then the smallest movement ever built in series production. This is only one of the great multitude of developments created by Eterna craftsmanship.

In the late twenties, Eterna developed the elegant, rectangular baguette watches, which were all the rage at the time: the narrower the case, the more popular the watch. Little space remained for the watch movement. In 1930 the watchmakers at Eterna succeeded in making what was then the smallest movement ever to be built in series production.Eterna developed a whole series of new watch movements in the course of time. With the exceptionally flat Calibre 1504, also known as Eterna*Matic 3000, the watchmakers at Eterna proved the outstanding performance of which they were capable back in 1962. Many of these watch movements still tick away today in Eterna timepieces. A completely new movement was designed on the basis of the Valjoux 7750 for the revolutionary chronograph function of the Porsche Design INDICATOR . With a complex integrated solution, the height was kept low. Four spring barrels are needed to drive all the functions reliably. This masterpiece of the watchmaking art comprises some 800 components in all.

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

    sorry, no offense temm.
what i meant was - for us$150k, you could get almost any current Patek/Lange/VC/AP/Breguet/JLC/etc. perpetual calendars out there (tourbillons & minute repeaters are also within reach). considering chronos fm these toptier manufacturers seldom go abv us$50k, absolutely ridiculous for porsche to charge that much... unless watch comes with a 997TT.

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

    Temm,

As a matter of interest, what do you think of the Officini Panerai range?

    I have a PAM 140 (18K with carbon fibre dial), a 47mm 1950 and a pre-Vendome Luminor.

I understand there's now a connection with Ferrari?

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

    No worries AS

I know what you meant and there are several other watches out there for 150K as you say that are more well known and respected, if I can use that term.

And personally I would never use that much money on a watch - ever. The most expensive watch I would consider buying (if I won the lottery), is the Lange & Söhne Langematik Perpetual - the most beautiful watch in the world IMO, which retails in the US for about 50k, I think.

I looove Panerai, and I'm thinking about buying a Luminor GMT in 44 mm (PAM 00161, shown in picture) or 40 mm (PAM 159), I have to try them on since I have quite slim wrists. And since we don't have a Panerai dealer in Norway, I'll have to stop by Wempe the next time I'm in London.

That's a very nice collction you've got there Very nice and very rare watches, I'm sure you've had some tempting offers for them already.

Yes, Panerai is now the "official timekeeper of Ferrari"

    Re: New $150K Porsche Watch

In the US, there are maybe only TWO potential customers nutty and rich enough to buy a $150K Porsche watch - Jerry Seinfeld and Billy "Howdy Doody" Gates.
