-20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

Does anyone have any updates on whether the -20 mm suspension with LSD will be offered in NA?

Might the GT3 open the door for it in NA?

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

they should've just offered LSD as an option (regardless of suspension). am sure many would've gone for it.

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

I heard that the issue was bumper heights, but I'm just wondering . . .

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

No mention of LSD in there...

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

hi Grant, as you previsouly mentioned:

    <<<quote>>>
You need to open the transmission to install (new gearbox is not repairable - just replaced when broken, so dealers don't open them). Also, you may need a software change to the PSM system to accommodate the new vehicle dynamics...
    <<<unquote>>>

doubt $1749 includes a new LSD gearbox.

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

Doubt its even the same thing as the -20mm, the -20mm is the P17 Sport chasis. Suncoast is talking about a M030, so its probably just a 996 M030 version for the 997. And if the 996's M030 is any guide, its got nothing to do with the -20mm on the 997 which is sportier and with a rear LSD.

hmmm....even without switching out for LSD, will PSM "adapt" ? -- is there an easy reprogram to tell the PSM and PASM brains that the hardware is no longer there, to avoid fault messages?

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

PASM cars will need to disable that function (as with any after mkt coilovers). should work fine (w/out mods) on non-PASM cars.

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

Darn - I was getting so hopeful there.

Carlo, can you tell us more about the comparison of the 996 sport suspension and the -20 mm on the 997S?

Also, when would the LSD really make a difference? Driving at 7/10ths, 9/10ths, 10/10ths?

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

The -20mm on the 997S is sportier: less body roll, firmer, more stable and efficient around corners i.e. allows more corner speed especially in fast curvers with bumps such as expansion joints, etc.

The LSD makes a difference when you start to loose traction in the rear, it makes its more progressive and allows a greater and more efficient transmision of power to the ground under those circumstances. So its makes a bigger difference in slow corners for example when the rears can spin easier for example.

So it makes the car faster around the corners "when going all out", and alse makes the car more fun when playing with the rear. I love it.

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

Carlos, any comments on how the -20 mm suspension compares with the suspension set up on the MkII 996 GT3?

Does anyone out there have any news on this suspension in NA any time soon?

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

sucoast is listing the suspension part of the sport chassis, no lsd.

i've looked into retrofitting lsd and the official answer from porsche (through my delaer) is that it is not avilable for retrofit at this time but that doesn't mean that it will not be available in the future... so porsche

9ff and manthey said it can be done. but manthey said it is so involved that they could only do it at their facility not something to describe to a mechnis how to do.

porsche us parts catalog offers a compelte tranmsision with lsd for 9k. it seems to be the easiest but an expensive way to go. not certain if delaer can provide update to psm.

I have not tried a MkII GT3 so can't comment on personal experience but the GT3's suspension should be a bit sportier (lower and firmer) than the 997-20mm. However, the suspension geometries, chasis and components of the -20mm suspension are a generation newer and they have improved over the 996's considerably.

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

I think I'm going to wait until the -20 mm suspension is available in NA, whcih makes me the ultimate waiter in this forum!

You may wait for ever ... could you "import" a European version?

Re: -20 mm Sport Suspension in NA

Well, I'm hoping that the GT3, which will probably be lower than a C2S with PASM and hopefully as low if not lower than a C2s with -20 mm suspension, will have the bumper height issue resolved and pave the way for the -20 mm suspension to be ofered in the US/Canada. I'm also hoping that the GT3 testing for crash safety will pave the way for a C2S with the sunroof deleted. If, after the introduction of the GT3, those things don't happen, I'll probably bite the bullet and just get a C2S with PASM.

Given the rumors about the GT3 having a version of PSM, I would strongly consider getting one, but 2 issues steer me away: (1) the low ride height of the GT3 makes it a questionable daily driver and (2) the styling on the GT3 and Aerokit is overdone IMO.

A C2S with -20 mm suspension seems the perfect car for me. I'm also considering the X51, but not until I see some independent performance numbers comparing it with the standard 3.8.

I think importing a European car is out of the question.
