    Is anyone else crazy about gt silver on a coupe?

    It was a pricy option at $3000.00 but I love the way this color looks. .....could be that I am just biased, now that I own the thing but......I really think it is a special silver...the car turns heads here in Phoenix, which is kind of cool.....my last car was a 996 c4 cab in seal gray, and it did not get the same reaction......

    I have never seen a GT silver in rreal life before! i hope i will have the luck and run into one later. I have heard a lot of great things about it, and i am sure it does look nice tho:! but of course, flat black is better

    GT:

    I too had an arctic silver 996 Coupe. I also went with the GT Silver on the new one. It can not be justified in the price difference and a layman will never know the differance but you made the right choice. IMO, GT Silver id the best color preiod to show the beautiful lines of the 997.

    If it weren't for the money i had chosen for my cab GT-silver and cocoa interior...
    But the price was too high imo, so i stayed with black-black.

    But imo Gt-silver is truly a "richer" colour for the 997...

    Yes that is the richest combo out there. My Gt Silver just got her VIN last week and I should have it early January. I was already waaaaaaay over budget so stuck with black interior but the Cocoa looks great and very rich IMO.

    Well, I've looked at both Arctic and GT closely, and I definitely don't think that GT is worth the money. GT silver is more grey than Arctic - it's darker, yet you can only really tell when one is next to the other. Some feel that in comparison, Arctic looks "washed out" - too light. I actually think that Arctic does a better job of amplifying the curves and lines than GT does. If I wanted darker than Arctic, I'd choose Seal. That's 3G I'd rather not give to Porsche since they're stealing my money on a proper sound system and sport chrono - 2 things that should be standard on a 911.

    I used to LOVE GT silver, but I've "seen the light" and come around.

    @tooner:
    Are that 20" or 19" rims?
    Doesn't the car feel very hard and uncomfortable with the lowered suspension?
    Did you only change springs or the "i don't know the english word for "amortiseur"" too..I mean the whole suspension leg?

    Can't say I'm crazy about any variant of silver. One problem is that the 'Carrera S' rear badge hardly shows - there's no contrast like with the dark colours. Same with standard wheels - no contrast. My previous P car was Guards Red and I may go back to that one day but for now I'm very happy with my Basalt/Black. This is a seriously classic combo without being ostentatious. Great contrast with the badge, wheels and brake calipers.
    There are too many silver (and seal) 911's in the UK, in my opinion, and far too many Boxters in these colours.

    The car looks gr8 but with 20" wheels chances are that you lose a bit of pefromance off the line.

    Random thoughts:

    GT Silver isn't crisp and clean like Arctic, and isn't warm and organic like Seal. It's just kind of like metal-flake primer to me. I'm a big fan of the Arctic, as it's got good "pop" to the eye.

    I'm good with my 19" wheels. There's a threshold for car's balance and proportion, over which, the car begins to look like a kid's Hot Wheels die-cast. No offense Tooner, at least we agree on Terracotta, which puts us both in the direct fire of Terra-haters!

    Nissan has a silver they call Silver Alloy (light) that looks like liquid mercury going down the road, so alive and "molten alloy" looking. Intense depth and reflection. Compared to those, I'm not terribly impressed with ANY of Porsche's silver offerings, let alone charging flippin $3 grand for a particular shade of it.

    Gotta agree with the Bossman - Nissan has some gorgeous colors, and in general, Porsche colors aren't that spectacular.

    John H - I think Basalt is one of Porsche's better colors, and if black weren't as high maintenance as it seems to be to me, I'd have it for sure.

    Arctic is common, but it looks great, and seems to be much lower maintenance to keep looking great.
