Flat tire!!

Got a 5 inch nail in my left rear tire over the weekend, Went in the face of the tire and came threw the inner side wall. Got a new tire, but should i be worried about the rt side having about 2000 miles wear? Or should i balance the RT rear tire? Some have even suggested that i buy a new RT rear tire! The tread is RT rear tire is still in good condtion. What do you guys think?

Who told you to replace both , if it was a tire dealer ignore because this is pure BS ( porky pie telling

You cannot go by mileage but by amount of remaining tread--2000 miles probably isn't a lot of wear but it all depends. At my worst, I used to replace the rears on my 996 Turbo at 5000 miles. At that rate, 2000 miles would be 40% of the tire's useful life.

I'm not an expert but I doubt you'd notice a difference if the tread depth of the old vs. new tires is less than 10% of the as new tread. To me, much more than 10%, and then you get into that endless cycle of replacing tires in odd numbers rather than sets of 2 or 4.

Tough luck! I have one in the centre of the tread that I'm nursing until I can get fixed.

I think you should be OK at 2k... You could always try going round roundabouts really fast until the wear evens out

Or you could get another new tyre+rim and use the part-worn as a spare incase it happens again.

Edit: Sorry, caught your location. you probably don't have many roundabouts to go round!

No need to change the other tire or even it balancce it at 2000 miles. One tire will most likely wear faster than the other as it has 200o miles on it but so what? Save your money for now. No worries

Aw Geez, POR911, you left out the best part! Did the can of goo work or were you saved by your after-purchase spare? Which worked, the cell or satellite phone? Any missed meetings or close calls with "America's Most Wanted?"

But I did miss a great bird watching seminar!!

Actually it couldn't have happened at a worst time, was fully dress in a tux and on the way to a holiday party (already running fashionabile late, or so i would like to think). Made it an hour late. Must say that the tools that porsche offer along with the dinky oviously red spare werent worth being in a pinto. The aluminum rod used to lift the jack bent almost right away as i was trying to lift the car

, had to have my girlfriend bench press the car up
