    Now if only they could invent a device that prevents the driver from operating the car if the driver:
    1. Has a blood-alcohol concentration > 0.00%,
    2. Is operating a phone (hand-held or not) whilst the car is in gear,
    3. Is drinking or eating whilst the car is in gear. . . .


    Then they can invent a device that monitors the driver's and car's performance (braking, cornering, changing lanes, for example), and fines the driver if that driver demonstrates to the device that the driver doesn't know what he is doing behind the wheel of the car, REGARDLESS of the car's absolute speed.

    And theres more .....

    Road use tax based upon a state database that interrogates a GPS system in your car. So state governments and insurance companies know where, how far and when you drive, not just only how fast.

    This system has already been developed by the University of Birmingham in the UK and is being beta tested. Some Insurance companies offer it in Beta form now in the UK and Florida
    as a inducement for rate reduction. Many state and local governments want it as a way to obtain more tax revenue because of declining fuel tax revenues in the US, others see it as a "congestion" tax.

    Combine that with RFID chips currently in many employee ID cards and voila!, most of your living moments will be there for anyone to see if they have access or can hack into a MySQL or Oracle database.

    Its all worthy of a Rule 303 solution.

    I just worry for my kids. All of this in the effort to prolong life, yet simultaneously making the quality of life more miserable. The irony is tragic, is it not??

    And here in the uk it is also a case of persecute mr motorist.

    we have a "congestion charge" in somer cities, it's basically a toll to for using the cityat the busiest time....this is spreading uk wide in the future.

    There are also plans to tax road users depending on what roads they use and at what times during the day they use them this will be done via a gps based system.

    We also have been told of plans to link most of the traffic monitoring cameras on motorways to allow technology to catch more "speeding motorists" ...but this is just revenue generating crap.


    20 years from now motoring will be unrecognizable as we know it .............whatever happened to freedom of movement......

    all the more reasons to buy a Porsche now while we can still enjoy them. Think of the stories you will be able to tell to your grandchildren...of days when you could speed and not get caught and cars could actually excede the posted limits.

    Yep until someone decided to test the top speed of one of Mr Shelby's Cobra's..... 180 mph then the speed limit was introduced

    The way things are going driver skill is going down while accidents are actually more common per fixed number of drivers. And the governments don't care as long as they have an excuse to collect revenue.
