    Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

For those of you that have a Valentine 1 (I got one for my b-day), how do you have it set up? I'm not thrilled with the idea of having it plugged into the lighter and having that cord dangling around, but I like the idea of being able to move it from P car to our other car which we usually take on road trips (when we take our dog with us). Anyone just leave it plugged in to the lighter? Also, do you keep it on in metro areas as well as highway/open freeway areas? Thanks.

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

I keep it mounted on the windshield and plugged into the 12v socket, not in the lighter. The cord drops straight down, goes to the right of the passenger seat, out of sight and into the socket. When you shut the V1 or car off, the red indicator light goes off, so you are not drawing power. I keep it on city and highway. Settings are adjustable. Good Luck!

Cool. Thanks. Do you like it?

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

I've owned everything from Whistler to Escort. V1 is by far the best, but with rapid changes in technology, who know's what's around the corner. Enjoy

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

You have that socket in pass footwell? Run cord from visor, stuff behind window gasketing, open glove box (then close on cord) then into that socket. (or rear center console should have a plug in the little flip top wallet-sized compartment. (NOT ashtray)

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

Buy several hotwire kits from VR and set up sockets and cables in all your cars. Then you can just switch the detector from car to car, without having to deal with lighter sockets.

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

Hardwire kits can be had for about $50. If you don't mind paying somebody to do a proper install, have a Porsche Tech install the kits and like Crash said, you only have to move the unit from one car to the next.

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

I mounted my V1 to the right of the rear view mirror with the suction cup mount- I had it hard wired with the wire running under the roof liner to a hot wire point. Cost me $50 to get it done. The wire is out of the way and it really isn't seen from outside. Initially I didn't think the suction cups would be good but I had the V1 mounted in the same spot for 2 and half years and it didn't come loose once.

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

I have heard that a new band, the KU band, is being introduced in Christmas or early 2006, and I am recommanded to send my valintine in in Christmas so i can get it updated. I am not sure but that's what people are telling me.
Valentine is by far the best radar! It have safe me 3 times on the highway while going to St. Louis from Atlanta . I was going 120mph . If I did not have the valentine, i would have been in jail for the night x 3

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

hardwire, get it up top. More range, more discreet.

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

I was about to post my install. Please give me a couple days to post pictures.
Very clean IMHO and involves NO cutting into car's wire and no peeling of any glued panel. It looks professional enough for me, shows very little, and requires no manual dexterity whatsoever. Plus you don't need any additional wire other than what comes with the unit.

While the way I do it is not new (V1 to the right of rear mirror, wire runs hidden along the inside of headliner towars left side, then underneath the black rubber lining along the A pillar, then to the fuse box); what I "discovered" that has so far not been specifically discussed is the specific fuse that you hook this wire to so that the unit will turn on and off with ignition key.

The only thing that shows is a 2 inch run of wire as it crosses from headliner to the a pillar rubber lining. Hardly noticeable. Someone on rennlist(1080i adddict ??) has posted a cleaner and more professional installation , but this involves opening the ceiling light unit and hooks onto existing wire, which I am not too keen about.

At the risk of sounding like a total moron, do I need a special adapter to plug it into the 12 volt socket? Thanks.

Please do, I only have my valentine sticking on the window with a cigarette power cord that really looks bad. Thanks!

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

Here in Germany radardetector are not allowed, but I still want to install a valentine one into my 997. Does anyone has a
    trick to hide it?

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

up to the top, you mean behind/close to the sun sheald with power from the internal light/button of the sun roof?

    Re: Valentine 1 -- Questions Re Set-Up

I've posted this picture many times, I am not sure if this would be available in Europe....unless you fly the guys at AI Design here in NY out there.
