    ABSOLUTELY no problem with it.

    This is North America smiley

Plus, I did talk to FSW about the winter tires and he said he won't certify any, but that doesn't I can't find what will work and do it myself.

Whoopsy is our official North American Porsche certification center. Anyone who puts snow tires on a 918 is a GOD among ordinary drivers!  Awesome!  Going to go drive my Turbo in the snow with its summer tires in your honor today.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Typically you can put any tire on any car, so long as you can find the right sizes.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

So, can we expect some pics of 918 in snow smiley

    RC:

This isn't wrong, just very risky. I mean I do not ride a motorcycle anymore because I'm scared of car drivers hitting me accidentally because many drivers just drive like sh.t and do not pay sufficient attention but with a bicycle, it is even more dangerous (those bike helmets are a joke, mine fell a meter on concrete and basically broke in half, it was tested to be very safe).

Speaking of which. Do you guys replace your snowboard/ski helmets after every single fall to your head? Supposedly you're supposed to, but I can't make sense of $200 each time my head hits the ground. It's not a super common thing, but it can happen plenty of times, usually not that hard even. I had a good fall the other day, but only enough to give me a headache for about 10 seconds and a slightly sore neck the next day. $200 every time that happens? I literally just bought the helmet the day before. Seems a bit much... Beginners would buy spending 1000s of dollars on helmets!

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

IMO not after every single fall, it's still down to judging if the impact was severe enough to compromise the foam inside or not (was it a scrape or blunt trauma, was it on the chin arch vs occipital area, how hard was the surface were it hit, etc) but helmet's protective properties are a one use thing, like an airbag, if the impact was enough to compress the foam, then its done. I'm guessing if the fall left you hurting afterwards then its not far fetched that unfortunately it affected the helmet, but you were the one there...

It's only your brain that it protects. So you can be your own judge how much it's worth and how much you want to pay to protect your own head. So if you think saving $200 is more important than protecting your own head then so be it.

I buy top of the line racing gear, 3 layer fire suit and helmets and such, and I protect my helmets like they are my first born. One time someone accidentally knock my helmet off a table, I sent that one back to Stand21 for inspection and went to my backup helmet. And from that point onwards, I always leave my helmet on the ground.

I would not worry about that one Nick because when it fell your head wasn't inside it to "use" the foam padding, and a fall from a table is not even close to damaging the shell either (or it wouldn't be much of a shell at all). Then again there is no fault in being too careful in things like that, but if the situation arises were you need to use the backup I wouldn't worry at all about it IMO.

I ski in jeans. I don't fall. Lol. Never considered a helmet. Then again I am not a downhill racer. It would be like wearing a helmet when jogging or walking.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I am more concerned about getting hit by someone else - out of control beginner etc. I never go onto the slopes without a helmet.

Just bought a new Giro with MIPS. And one for each of the kids.

Leawood, you falling is not the issue. It is being hit by some maniac doing downhill. I have seen too many accidents with bicycles and skis to never ever consider going without a helmet.

I bought the giro MIPS something or other. Nice helmet. $200. Definitely need a helmet even if you never fall. Slopes can get crowded. People run into each other all the time.

I tend to have good awareness around me and don't put myself into such positions. But you make a good point. Thanks for your concern.

This is the clever thing to do. Smiley Actually, I always say that people with brains want to protect them. Smiley Smiley

My kids got hit by idiot skiers a couple of times, even if you ski carefully and respect all rules, there is always that idiot who doesn't. A helmet can be a lifesaver and your chances to survive a collision or just a simple drop is much higher with a helmet.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I"ve replaced my ski helmet twice after bigish hits. If it made your head swim, you need a new helmet.

I used to downhill mountain bike a lot in my youth, was pretty good, but it was in that time where some people were using helmets but not everyone. I was one of the ones that didn't wear a helmet. I made a hard and very fast left and the bike went out from under me. I had a split second to decide (and it's amazing it was the only thing I had in my mind as it was happening) "Head or leg" I chose leg and broke it in four places, ruptured my achilles, tore another tendon off the bone in my foot and was in a hip cast for nearly six months. If I had chosen head I wouldn't be typing right now.

    Helmets are important.

It's not only about you, but the people around you.

I do lots of cross country ski so the danger is second to none, but I always wear helmet, you never know

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I resisted helmets a long time on ski slopes, but about 5 years ago started to wear one . It just got too dangerous on the the slopes with all the other people and you never know ...... a hit against a tree, a rock , your own ski is always possible We do lots of off piste and forest skiing with the kids , so it is actually a must have . Just look at what happened to Schumi , not that it even saved him . And the icing , is that it keeps you warm, No more need more a cool ski cap .

Same with my wife. She refused to wear a helmet for years but when the kids were born, she changed her perspective.  Now she has three different (super expensive) helmets to fit each of her skiing outfits. SmileySmileySmiley Smiley

I think RC is actually the fashionista who packs 3 helmets and outfits to match his R8. Since his' wife doesn't post on here, he can just blame it on her even though it's really him.

I wear a helmet because it is confortable and keeps me warm. And it is safe. No downside really...
