    997 GT3 and Turbo - Launch Dates

    It is almost official: We just heard today from a very reliable source that the new 997 GT3 and 997 Turbo are scheduled for a May/June 2006 release in Germany. I don't know which one comes first but I'd say May for the GT3 and June for the Turbo.
    Again: these are the launch dates for GERMANY, it can vary from country to country.

    Im really excited, but dont u think that it is sort of stupid to have them so close together? those are the most anticipated models along with the GT2, so why clump them together and let all ur thunder go like that..wouldnt a year difference or something be more beneficial?

    Any more word on launch LOCATIONS (Geneva in March for TT, Detroit in January for GT3, or vice versa)?

    Yes and they mentioned 480 HP too. Maybe they're wrong with both? BTW: the yellow Turbo on the picture (from the rear) is just a photoshop job. So maybe it isn't too late for 500+ HP. I still can't believe Porsche is THAT dumb, I don't want to believe it.

    Each car is for a different "audience".

    It depends alot on the car's weight, as well as HP and torque curves, i.e., how much power and torque across the rev range the VTG's can make. What is bandied about is PEAK HP figures, this is helpful, because, a car with a higher peak HP has greater potential for greater power and torque at low- and high-revs. HOWEVER, some cars are set up and tuned differently for several reasons with a greater or lesser emphasis for power and torque at different rpm's. The big unknown is the ability of the VTG's to "flatten" the curve, increasing the "area under the curve," meaning how much torque and power can be generated away from the peak, since the greater the area under the curve, the GREATER the potential power output and ultimately performance even at a FIXED peak horsepower. This is the big question for me, since this VTG technology has the theoretical potential to unleash a tremendous amount of usable power even without gargantuan increases in PEAK HP, although nonetheless, the greater the peak HP, the higher the potential power output. Which is why I would love for Porsche to release the HP and torque graphs plotted against rpm's, ideally as soon as they officially release the car's specs. to the general public.

    So, yes, the 997TT with 480 (peak) HP COULD be slower (than the 996TT), especially with weight gain, BUT this is not likely. The more salient question is: Will it be any faster than the 996TT? And, if so, by how much? And, if so, worth buying at its price? Which, I GUARANTEE you, WILL be higher than it was for the 996TT.

    I am confident the 997TT will not be slower than the 996TT. It may accelerate like the 996TT but faster in 1/4 mile and afterwards and perhaps a top end of 200 m.p.h. It will handle and break better and over all a better balanced car. Guys let's face it, it can't get too much faster than the 996TT. Afterall the 997TT should lose to the CGT and the 997GT2, right?

    Are you serious? Even with 480hp the car will be probably be close to 996GT2 performance.

    The only thing I know for sure is that the 997 Turbo will be faster than the 996 Turbo S. I can't say how much faster but it beats the 996 Turbo S regarding 0-100 kph, 0-160 kph and 0-200 kph performance. Difference in top speed is even higher.

    Hmmm. Photoshopped (i.e., fabricated) 997TT pic, possibly incorrect launch date (March instead of May/June 2006). Maybe RC IS on to something. 480HP? Maybe, maybe not? The suspense is killing me, like Chinese water torture. Arghhhhh!

    The 997 TT will be faster than both 996 TT and TT-S. The weight won't be that much higher - why should it?

    You cannot compare it to the change from 993 to 996 TT - those are two entirely different cars!

    Excuse me, RC, I've heard that the 997 Targa will be launched in Oktober/November 2006. Do you have some more Infos about that? Thanks!
