    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

    Herbaliser:

Even for less money, the 750xd will be more car for the bucks. The new Seven is a great vehicle, full of high tech and at least one generation ahead of the Panamera. Even the pure driving pleasure isn't different (and I was driving both), while the Bimmer has all those Gizoms!

Are you sure that you are talking about the latest 7 and the latest Panamera? The high tech gizmos in the 7 - useless software tricks to make people say exactly that (wow...the 7 is full of tech!)

Interior - I can't believe that anyone (and actually haven't heard anyone) who sat in the Panamera would even consider to compare it to the 7. I've had 2 BMW's from the previous generation and the new 7 doesn't feel any different.

And the biggest difference - driving pleasure or let's call it driving dynamics (I'll reserve pleasure for cars like the GT3 RS). We are talking different planets here. The 7 is trying to be an S-class, quite successfully I would say. The Panamera can be whatever you want...even if it hides it's speed and dynamics they are there objectively. Tell me that 7.38 Ring time for a 2 t sedan with only 550hp isn't crazy.

Sorry but saying that the Panamera is one gen behind the 7 is BS and the market is voting already. The 7 series sells poorly as reported by financial media and BMW offers huge discounts here and there.

The first reports on the Panamera's demand that I hear are very positive.

    +1

And also... I would be embarrased showing up in a 7-series, it is that bad in my view Smiley

We'll see how it sells in the long run. 7 sales are quite good, compared to the previous generation, but still half of S-Class. But it's no secret that BMW offers quite attractive lease rates, traditionally.
If someone wants an affordable (compared to Bentley and RR that is) prestigious car with some gangsta vibes, the S-Class still is it.

I've not yet driven the Gen 2 Panamera (but the first one a couple of times), but I've driven G11 7 and S-Class (Diesel and AMG 63), and the 7 is best of both worlds, it can be comfortable but "Sport Mode" is a treat (and still comfortable) and the car feels a lot smaller than it is. Quite the opposite in the (old) Panamera. Anyway, the 7 is worlds apart from the S-Class when it comes to steering and driving dynamics.

The "tech gizmos" like gesture control or remote parking are not essential (or very useful), but funny - and there are other features like the head up unit.

Regarding the interior: maybe I'm alone here, but I don't like it that much. The touch control center console looks nice, but the gear lever is disturbing, the center screen is so big that it seems they went out of space for a good integration and the two massive cupholders are just plain ugly.  This is no pick up truck.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

In Bavaria, the 7 series is basically the sedan of the rich and beautiful or better said...of the serious business people. No matter how money you have, billionaire, whatever but you need to have a BMW 7 series in Bavaria. No kidding. If you go to Munich, everyone in serious business drives a 7 series, even Seehofer and his gang. Smiley Smiley

Kind of the business luxury sedan over here. The 7 series.

I was not impressed with the 7 Series when it launched but now after seeing it up close I find it to be a very nice car.

you nailed it. The car is absolutely perfect for the daily business use and I like the understatement when it comes to customer appointments. Till now not the slightest malfunction not even from the tons of gizmos the 7er is equipped with. Of course the appearance is a little boring but driving with the car and the helpful assistants are a pleasure. I think for the daily use under tough business conditions a car must be like a good friend, always there when you need it, helpful and 100% reliable. The 7 Series is a very good friend Smiley

For those who find 750 boring there is always the new B7 or even the 760ix to remove the cobwebs from your eyes.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Just FYI: Panamera 4S Diesel (new generation), tested in AMS. 0-100 kph in 4.0 seconds, 0-200 kph in 16.0 seconds. Amazing performance. For comparison: It is faster than the last gen Panamera GTS.

True but not because of performance... Smiley

I mean the new 7 series is great but how can you compare it to this (color is Kreide in Germany, some sort of lighter Audi Nardo Grey, looks amazing on the Panamera)? Smiley

Unofficial yet but happening, Panamera Turbo S (hybrid) is coming in the Fall 2017 with a total of 688HP (SAE) and base price in US just over $180k.

Available in both short and long wheelbase.

Btw, the diesel performance is nothing but amazing.....

RC - I agree - how can you compare the New 7 to a Panamera?

The 7 is a true luxury sedan, while the Panamera is neither a luxury sedan nor a sports car. It hits a different spot and a different market place. For me, I would never buy a Panamera. BUT - I really like it, just not for me. The new 7 - I feel tempted every time I see one. But again - I would never compare them. Different portfolio!

However - as I know you didn't like your Panamera Turbo that much, I really can't understand that you kind of fancy the new one?  From the street appearance the new one isn't any different than the old one (beside the better looking rear). And from driving - the same - a bit more refined - but not too much different (the old one already was great to drive). So - yes, it is a good car, but buying one?

I agree, for most business travel and representation, especially in Europe, the 7 series is the better (wiser) choice.

However - as I know you didn't like your Panamera Turbo that much, I really can't understand that you kind of fancy the new one?  From the street appearance the new one isn't any different than the old one (beside the better looking rear). The new one is great and is better than the old one. It does not feel like the old one, you need to drive one with RWS and you'll be very surprised how nimble it feels.

I am not thinking about getting one, I'm not the sedan type of guy, I had to learn it the hard way (E55 AMG and Panamera Turbo S...kept them less than a year). My choice would be the next Cayenne S Diesel but actually I would want the Turbo or better...Turbo S. Depends if I can afford the Turbo or Turbo S. Smiley
Panamera for me? Never again but this doesn't mean I don't like it. I like it a lot. Smiley

Does anybody have more info regarding the Turbo S? Whether you like it or not, It might be arguably the most exciting car of its segment ever. Will be a Sport Turismo version of it?

Sport Turismo is confirmed, not yet known if available Fall 2017 or Spring 2018.

For a diesel automobile, those are impressive performance figures.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

0 to 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds, for a sedan, is impressive IMHO

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Turbo S hybrid with 688HP?  Damn it all--just when I had talked myself into a Turbo--which is at the outer limits of my financial sanity--here comes another temptation.  My crazy Porsche desires are getting out of hand.  Like the old joke about what Adam said to Eve when he first saw her naked:  "Stand Back Eve!  I don't know how big this thing is going to  get!"

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Yes the Turbo S is gonna be a monster. Almost 700HP for all out performance but with the hybrid drivetrain it will be a pussy cat in and around town and saved a lot of fuel.

This is what an hybrid is suppose to be in the first place.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Panamera Turbo S (as a hybrid) could be very good compromise for guys who are looking for brutal performance, practicality and pretty reasonable fuel consumption/CO2. I assume that we will see exact same set-up in new Cayenne Turbo S (with less power probably)

They really need to have there seats at the back to make it practical - but I suppose that is the Grand Turismo. If they do a Turbo S hybrid version of that I might be tempted.
