    The sad truth at Porsche...

Just came back from our local Porsche Center...

Today they got a new car delivery - 15 new cars, just 1!!! 991.2 - the rest Cayenne and Macan - no Boxster and no Cayman.

    Smiley

Don't tell me something about delivery from Leipzig...that's reality - over 70% of their sales are SUVs and Panameras.

At least they still produce Sportscars...Smiley

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

Is it the time of  year? I imagine 911 and 718 models do not sell well with snow on the ground.

All 3 of my 911s are hibernating now.  Good thing that Porsche has made Cayenne and Macan for me.Smiley

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

What do you expect? How many 911s does Porsche even sell globally each year? 30K? There are like 700 Porsche dealers globally, so you wouldn't expect to see more than 4 cars per average each month at a dealer. Factor in high selling dealers in LA or NY or Shanghai vs middle of Germany, and the average is less. Factor in winter, and it drops further.

I'd say 1 or 2 911s is all you will ever see at many dealers at any given time.

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

Porsche expects to sell 100.000 Macans in 2016... At least we can buy exciting sport cars!

Mid engine, rear wheel drive, manual transmission with steel suspension only for me. SUVs? Sedans? A car with rear seats? No thank you...

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

Even us who have Porsche sport cars needs a more practical option to carry the family. Why not then have another Porsche? I would like to know the evolution of the Porsche sports cars sales in the last 20 years. Maybe we are no so shocked at the numbers....

I'd rather drive our Macan as a family car than a Q5.

Great - the next generation 911 will have the Lamborghini V10 from the Audi R8 and the Boxster / Cayman will have the amazing 5 cylinder engine from the TT RS, bye bye that awful excuse 718 has for an engine now Smiley

I know that it may be hard to believe but there is some sort of transition period going on at Porsche right now, before the new sportscar platform(s) will be used. I doubt that the V10 will make it to the next 911 gen or even the "960" but Porsche is, according to our sources, working on a better and more intense "emotional experience" and this includes the sound of their cars. Maybe Porsche listened to complains but future EU laws don't make it easy for them. Smiley

Don't get me wrong, I am not surprised since it matches the reality I see on the street (See more Cayenne and Macan than any other Porsche), however your specific example may be at least partially explained by the softening of the sports car market during the winter months? Smiley

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

And inside this very OPC is the other sad Porsche truth: 2 918 Spyder - one of them probably unregistered and several GT models on sale for the "usual" price.

Anyway the Cayenne seems to work pretty well in Bavaria

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

This are the numbers from the last 3 years. Clearly a car manufacturer but only 30% sports cars!

    Porsche KPI.JPG

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

I wonder how that number compares to other companies, how many comparable sportscars are other companies able to sell... not talking about Golf GTI's, I mean sportscars in the same performance and price segment as Boxster/Cayman/911...

Rather almost 6.5 billion... Smiley Net profit. Pretty good in my book.

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

I understand the sentiments about Porsche sports cars. My father thought Porsche lost its way with the 924 and 928!! However, the wife and I are beginning to consider a replacement for my daily driver (G35 Infiniti).  She currently has an 11 A3.  In addition to Porsche we shopped Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, and Mercedes for a "crossover SUV".  The very best of the bunch was the Macan GTS, her independent conclusion based primarily on the driving experience and quality of materials. Cargo management and passenger accommodations were better in some of the competitors. You have to give credit to Porsche for developing their non sports car vehicles with at least some of the Porsche "spirit".

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

Macan GTS and turbo are the best daily drivers out there. Not too big, not too small, higher driving position than sedans, fun to drive, great gearbox, AWD, all season tires available, modern (enough) technology and moderate fuel usage.

Re: The sad truth at Porsche...

My dealer has only a few 911s in stock, but says Porsche has cut back on production and allocations because customers are waiting on the new models.  He says this is very typical at this time in the generation change cycle.  Dealer also tells me that his highest profit margins are on 911s, and he can sell any that he gets because demand is always high.

Same OPC some days later - they got something nice, too.

Smiley We just got ourselves our 4th Cayenne. We always try something else but in the end...Cayenne it is (SUVs).

I'm not a fan of the Macan, sorry because in my book, it actually misses the typical Porsche feel. Can't help it but the Macan feels different, there is a certain stiffness/solidity in the chassis this car lacks. Smiley
