Looks great and I've always loved GT-silver! But the orange indicators just ruin the look. They need to be changed to clear ones asap 😎

That is one modification that can be done in 2 minutes, so not a very serious flaw Smiley

    this is like putting a GT-R before a 918 - it's THAT good !

On a more serious note - Evo has passed the "Bar-discussion-Level" of my car has 610HP yrs only X hence mine is better - their verdict is usually spot on and the fact that you have 7 tester and not just 1 should equalize this out - but if 7 put this car above a R8 they must be correct indecision

Bjoern, I understand why the 570S is "better", it is a very nice product from McLaren.
I do not get the 991 R though (well, maybe a little bit...this car probably got the "classic touch" and special edition bonus Smiley) and I do not get the Golf at all. Why? Because it is basically the fastest front wheel drive car on the Nordschleife? Seriously?

Btw: I bet you never drove the new R8 V10 Plus. I suggest a comparison ride with the Golf. Smiley This has nothing to do with power or whatever. The Golf is a good and affordable little racer for little money but second place in comparison to the kind of competition it faced? These guys must be out of their minds. Btw: I would have put the M2 before the Golf, honestly.

Hardly a surprise that you wouldn't understand that result... The R8 is quicker 0-60 and has 4WD, how can it end up lower in rank than the slower 2WD car?? Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

However, what I find refreshing is that EVO has the balls to come up with a "unexpected" verdict and obviously that Golf must have tickled some fancies. For me as a very Long Term subscriber of EVO they have earned in my book a lot of respect (although I miss the contributions of Jetro & Harry) and I take their verdict more serious that any other Magazine.

You clearly haven't followed my R8 thread. Smiley

The GTi Clubsport S is a hardcore Golf version, nothing more and nothing less. No front drive car can be real fun, not even the fastest one on the Nordschleife. My Mini JCW is the worst small powerful car I ever drove, traction is horrible and the chassis setup is also pretty bad for such a car. Just an example...

If you are talking emotions, the R8 is certainly one of the most emotional cars on the market. Drive one, you'll understand but take your time to try all available driving modes to appreciate the car.

I suspect that the EVO team selected based on their own car background (just look at what most car journalists drive home and you'd be surprised...), personal preferences, price tags (and their own pockets) and job experiences.

The 570S makes sense, the NSX makes sense, the M2 makes sense (but not in the last place) but the GTi Clubsport S is not even close to a sports car, it is a glorified Golf GTi which has been supped up by VW Motorsport to achieve the fastest time possible on the Nordschleife. So if car journalists would look for the most affordable track toy, the Golf would make sense but this wasn't really the purpose of that comparison, was it?!

Putting the Golf ahead of the M2 is just a joke. The M2 is a wonderful car, even if I personally would prefer the Audi RS3 or TT RS.

This is all I was saying. If you think that a Golf GTi is more emotional than a R8 V10 Plus, well...you must have weird emotions. Smiley

I'm sorry, but what utter nonsense is that? I know what I'm looking for in a car can be found in either an RWD or an FWD, being great damping, fluidity, communication, ...

I know you don't get that kind of enjoyment, you're more about acceleration, sound, grip, the newest,  ...

I'm not saying I'm right and you are wrong, just saying EVO Mag is not made for readers like you, as you don't get their point. The thrill of driving can be found all across the range of drivers cars, be it a €20k hatch, or a €300k supercar. I'd say drive a Megane R26.R and try to understand... I'll drive an R8 Plus!

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

The thing about magazine testers is that they have to come off as real enthusiasts. Like, an enthusiast's enthusiast. They have to rave about stuff average people really don't care about or notice. They have to make "critic" decisions that establish themselves as being something beyond the average person, because the average person knows the R8 is 100x as sweet and awesome as the Golf.

Do you really think any of them would reach for the keys of the Golf if offered a 570S, R8, or Huracan? Of course not.

911 R and Golf rank where they do because the editors wouldn't be worthy of being editors if they didn't. They'd just be like everyone else in the world who can easily just say the R8 and 570S are more desirable cars, end of story.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

My manual Mini convertible was a lot of fun and emotions, so much that we are getting another one... I had way more fun in my Mini that's in the boring first gen Panamera turbo for example.

The whole EcoTY thing makes no sense whatsoever beyond a few friends sharing a very personal opinion on cars they mostly cannot afford.

Thats the point...you can shift manually if you want to. If the clutch is that important to you, well...professional motorsports probably isn't. Smiley This is where they eliminated the clutch in many parts a long time ago and even during my short career as a rally pilot, I learned how to shift without using the clutch...because it was too slow and inefficient under certain conditions. Smiley Smiley I remember how we discussed how useless that clutch is and how amazing it would be if we had a shifting system which doesn't require one.

You are joking now, right? I drive aprox. 2-3 different cars...a week. Have driven every single model of the Megane RS (last drive was last summer, so I guess there could be a new one out or maybe next year Smiley). Amazing fun for the buck but thats the point. For that kind of money. If I had 200k and had to choose, I would never get a Megane RS or a Golf GTi Clubsport. You wouldn't either. Smiley Smiley

I would not order them but one should not judge, because the owner may well have back issues and need them.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Honestly I never got the hype about EVO, even though I understand why many people love the magazine.  Their point of views is utterly predictable, one-dimensional and at the end of the day more that of passionate journalists than of true owners.  I much more respect the analytical rigor of German sport auto.
