Since Audi is using the de-tuned Gallardo engine for the S8, it would be only logical that they use it for the R8(?) too. I'm not comfortable with one thing though: why not buying a Gallardo instead?

This "R8/LeMans" is going to be a dud. Marketing considerations will require Audi to position the "R8/LeMans" below the Gallardo in performance and pricing and at the end of the day it will have nothing in common with the awesome R8 that dominated endurance racing for the past few years and there will be no reason for anyone to buy it. All Audi will accomplish is to stain the R8 name and confuse everyone about why two completely unrelated cars have the same name, and why the "R8/LeMans" has nothing to do with the 8 series either. Who is in charge over there????

Al, not sure if you're serious but if you read the text they describe how the LED based lights are actually less prone to failure than standard lights. Plus the various LEDs can be digitally controlled to illuminate to the side of the car in turns with no moving parts. So there is a reason for the multitude of "bulbs" (LEDs actually).
If your smileys are there to indicate you're just funnin' with us then forget what I just said, I'll shut up now

I certainly wouldn't buy a neutered Lambo packaged as an Audi either. I still can't get used to the headlight setup-too many bulbs to blow.

Where ? Over at Autospies? It is said to get the 450hp 5.2l V10 found in the new S8. And that is likely to be the only version available.
