    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

i think it suppose to call R9 and r8 is the le mans champion car.

anyway ! this r9 price are very reasonable . and sure we can trust by their le mans champion experence .

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

I heard about R10 but who knows..?Problem is that r9 was the name of an infamous Renault.

That's what everyone thought but in their press release they refer to it as R8 Click here

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

    Thanks Ron,

I'll have to bug my Porsche/Audi dealer for details too. Any update on the powerplant?

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

As rumored they could have 2 versions V8 that uses RS4 engine and a V10 that will use the detuned version of Gallardo. But who knows?

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

Since Audi is using the de-tuned Gallardo engine for the S8, it would be only logical that they use it for the R8(?) too. I'm not comfortable with one thing though: why not buying a Gallardo instead?

Good thinking. Probably by the time the R8 is out a good used Gallardo would be the same price.

Let's see how the car performs. You never know, it might actually be better than the Gallardo.

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

The front end of the R8 looks like a barn door compared to the Lamborghini Gallardo.

It has a weaker engine and aerodynamics, so whats the point of buying it? To make the Audi salespeople happy?

If it was going to be some sort of demi Veyron with MORE
hp than a Gallardo, say with 650hp it would be more truthful
to its concept as a Audi to celebrate its Le Mans heritage.

To make it slower than thier Gallardo makes it seem more for the fashion designer crowd.

This is exactly what I thought as well. They said R8 will be a more GT-oriented car to further distinguish it from Gallardo, which I don't think is suitable to use the "Le Mans" name for.

Coupled with Audi's famous mooshy handling characteristics, you can pretty much write this off and classify it in the M6, DB9, Bently GT category, where I do not really see the point of having heavy powerful 2 seater coupe that handles like a pig.

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

This "R8/LeMans" is going to be a dud. Marketing considerations will require Audi to position the "R8/LeMans" below the Gallardo in performance and pricing and at the end of the day it will have nothing in common with the awesome R8 that dominated endurance racing for the past few years and there will be no reason for anyone to buy it. All Audi will accomplish is to stain the R8 name and confuse everyone about why two completely unrelated cars have the same name, and why the "R8/LeMans" has nothing to do with the 8 series either. Who is in charge over there????

I certainly wouldn't buy a neutered Lambo packaged as an Audi either. I still can't get used to the headlight setup-too many bulbs to blow.

Al, not sure if you're serious but if you read the text they describe how the LED based lights are actually less prone to failure than standard lights. Plus the various LEDs can be digitally controlled to illuminate to the side of the car in turns with no moving parts. So there is a reason for the multitude of "bulbs" (LEDs actually).

If your smileys are there to indicate you're just funnin' with us then forget what I just said, I'll shut up now

Yes the rumours are that it will get the 4.2l V8 from RS4 and the 5.2l V10 with 450 hp from the Audi S8. Since the V8 in the RS4 puts out 420 hp, it's going to be interesting to see if they de-tune that as well for the R8 since it will be very close to the V10.

Lamborghini is supposed to be the peak performance carmaker in the VAG family, which is why we are seeing de-tuned engines in Audi's. This is the problem you get when you have a large family and they all want to do the same thing. Just look at the "great" success VW has had with the "fat-one" also known as the Phaeton after VW wanted to get into Audi A8 territory. (A total of nine - 9 - Phaetons have been sold in Norway since 2002, while they sell about nne A8 a month.)

Well, I guess for the same reason you buy a Porsche and not a Ferrari or Lambo - a car that doesn't break down. A car that just costs an arm to service not an arm AND a leg. You want a car that doesn't fry it's clucth when you try to back out of the garage, and a car that can defrost the whole windscreen and not just parts of it on a cold morning......

The Audi R8 is supposed to be the "practical" supercar with more room than the Gallardo, and is supposed to compete with Porsche and Aston Martin, not Lambo and Ferrari.

I have a friend who really really wants a Gallardo, so we went down to the dealer to check out the single Gallardo for sale in Norway , but after hearing what it would cost to service and insure it and reading some posts about the clutch over at Lambo-power, he'll stick with his Porsche for now

Joking or not joking the LED lights on the concept car are not likely to make it into production, it will probably look something like this:

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

know what! i been waiting to see the different colour of this car almost 1 year , but still the same colour on this car!

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

i read today it would get a turbo + FSI tech so the v10 would get 610bhp. Specs would be 0-100(62mph)3.7 sec top speed 345kmh(215mph)

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

i agree with bazza, how much and what will the specs be? audi is not known for the 1% club so we will see

That might rekindle my interest. . . .

    Re: AUDI R8 for 2007

if i buy this car i am sure i wont get this colour , i am bored of it!

Where ? Over at Autospies? It is said to get the 450hp 5.2l V10 found in the new S8. And that is likely to be the only version available.

Yahoo auto france, and in fact i heard about a 600+ bhp turbo fsi from the start about 2 years ago.But as always, nothing is sure....

What i consider as 90% sure is that it will be the new audi flagship and so it will be the most powerful one, so we can expect more than 450bhp and the use of fsi tech to promote it.

I seriously doubt it if AUDI would do this. Lambo is their true sports car line and they won't over shadow the brand by R8.

same 610 bhp info here, they even have the torque of the new engine, it's the fourth time i see this rumor....
