    Top Gear onTV just now: 997S beat the M6 and AM

    2 to 1 vote. JC as usual didn't like the 997S

    The 997S was 6secs faster than the M6 and AM around the TT circuit.

    6secs faster on a small road segment. Had it been the TT course it would have been about an hour ahead

    Although I so wanted the 911 to win..

    It was a forgone conclusion. I am sure the stig is more than experienced at driving 911's. No one will be overly experienced in the other 2!

    And that M6 is soo fugly! I don't go with the Aston being gorgeous either. I really don't understand the huge waiting list. Must be a badge thing!

    The AM did OK I thought. The real surprise was the M6 ! The only way this car could be beat the other 2 is on a flat, straight, empty 4-lines motorway! It's dragster not a car! A good waste of BHP!

    You must be joking. You think a top driver would have any trouble in getting into a new car and extracting every last ounce of performance out of it?

    BTW apart from PCCB, the 997S had no -20mm, and of course no X51. The difference would have been embarrasing otherwise...

    You can't beat Porsche! But I do like BMWs in a family car way. Hence the 530xi sat next to my 997S only yards away!

    Yeah that car is the Porsche GB demonstrator as seen in Evo mag and fifth gear etc and it has -20mmI even have the copy of Evo where it refers to it and that car has the same reg.

    OK. Maybe I should think about getting that option on my upcoming C4S. Did the wet conditions help the 997S? Can't decide on this one...

    Yeah - they said it cost Pounds65k; more like Pounds75k me thinks!! Still cheaper that both the others however

    Not sure how tight any coners were but if it did have any very slow ones then yes the 997 gains an advantage because of its better traction exiting them. The LSD would also have helped.

    If it was a series of fast sweeping bends then I guess the car just inspires more confidence allowing it to gain a valuable amount of time.

    100% sure this is the same car as tested by EVO and 5th gear; it's a porsche UK press car with registrationplate: RX54 ... and equipped with -20mm suspension + lsd.
    For those who didnot see it yet : it's worth the download; highly entertaining and critical as well this time.

    Different track - the times on this evenings show were for the mountain road (part of the TT course) on the Isle of Man; not for the Top Gear test track.

    You are quoting their normal track numbers.....this was a section of the TT circuit on the Isle of Man.

    The 997/M6/V8 times were on their own seperate road about 400 miles away from the TG test track

    The times were set on a section of destricted public road on the Isle of Mann. The M6 and Aston set virtually identical times despite the M6's 120bhp advantge, and the nimble, "sport-packed" 911 was quite a bit ahead -as was expected.

    What intrigues me is that no one has compared the Aston to the PASM 997s. I hope that AM will respond with a "sport-pack" of their own to counter this. Competition can only make the cars better.

    The BMW leaves me completely cold

    You got these all wrong the laps you're quoting are on the TopGear circuit. The 997S v. AMV8 v. M6 was on the Isle of Man's portion of the TT circuit. Sorry but apples and oranges...
