    Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires

    My new P-car is coming with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires.
    Not much I can do but any opinions?
    Car & driver (on-line) just tested tires, these didn't fare well.

    There isn't much you can do about it, your dealer may be willing to exchange the wheels with the ones from another car sitting in his show room or stock but otherwise, I wouldn't know of any other solution. Of course you could always PAY for new tires and have them exchanged right away when your car arrives.

    I already saw a few C4S with RE050 tires, didn't see any Carrera or Carrera S with these tires. They may not be as sporty as the Michelin rubber but I don't think that they're that bad. Since Porsche is using Porsche approved/tested tires with N rating only, these tires cannot be compared to the "regular" tires, even if the brand name and type are the same. The N rated tires are usually using a different compound mixture, etc., they aren't comparable to the "original" tires.

    Tirerack does not have any N-spec tires for RE050, perhaps the Porsche orders a complete shipload of tires specifically for its use only.

    dweiser I really would not give a monkeys regarding what tires on are on it , your not entering a race ..

    Car & Driver were no doubt pushing them to the max and you will probably never push them that hard anyway..

    Just get it and enjoy it , it will all end up irrelevant..

    Come on Christian, do you really think the tyre companies are re-compounding their tyres just for Porsche? Why would this even be necessary?

    Forgive my scepticism but as I've said before, I think a lot of this has to do with creating a nice little cosy relationship between the tyre companies and Porsche whereby, Porsche gets new tyres at a cheap price and the tyre companies get to limit competition.

    The N rated tyre will be somewhat different to the run of the mill version - these tyres were supposedly developed for the Fezza F50 so they can't be all that bad.

    "porsche approved" tires are lighter than the standard versions of the same tire. check tirerack for specs.

    Since the car is coming with the tires just drive it and have fun. When they wear get a set of your choice. Hey you might like them. What tire would you like instead of the Potenza?

    Hi bstew,
    I guess I was thinking it would come with Michellins or Pirellis and was hoping for the Ms. These seem to be fine and as throt said, I won't be pushing them like "Car & Driver" did for their test. They DID wear out faster than the other 11 tested though.
    But ultimately, it IS all irrelevant, like throt said.
