    Another little cookie thrown at those who are interested...

    ...in the power figure of the upcoming 997 Turbo.
    I just received an email from a friend who met with a Porsche engineer recently, who is directly involved with 997 Turbo development. When asked about the power figure (my friend knew that I'm dying to get the precise figure, even if 480 HP seems to be pretty much valid), the answer of the engineer was: "regarding the engine power, the new Turbo will provide a surprise for everybody.". Unfortunately my friend is a freelance journalist and he didn't get more of course. But I think that the words of the engineer are very encouraging, I almost lost my "faith" after reading that (fake?) GT3RS press release.

    Just wanted to pass this on...

    I cancelled my loaded 997S order to wait for the 997TT, thinking it might be only $25K more at the most.....let's hope they keep the price in check as well.....

    RC, is latest rumor that 997TTS will come 1 yr or so after 997TT launch? Given I get new cars every 6-12 mos, I'd much rather get a new (and more profitable for P) 997TTS next yr....why waste everyone's time w/a 997Turbo WalMart/Costco edition?????

    Seems to make very little sense for any co. to launch a flagship car in limited allocations in a "budget"-only version.....P should have a "fully-priced" 997TTS@launch, when all the hitters want the fresh, top-of-the-line P, are willing to pay whatever to get it, etc......when car's initial hoopla dies down a bit in 6 mos. or so, then launch the 997TT and 997Turbodiesel/Hybrid versions for the unwashed masses....

    Merc suffers from similar illogical strategies of launching only an SL500, then 55 6-9 mos later, and 65 about 30+ mos post-SL launch when body's old and lots of jaded guys have gotten bored and would rather deploy the $200K elsewhere.....

    Porsche is driving us crazy with power figure....for both,GT3 and Turbo...

    can't wait to understand better..

    just as i predicted lol, you can put 480 on paper, but it bear in mind the last GT2 had 483, and realistically left the factory with about 530....also, why do ppl obsess with the power figure as long as acceleration is the best of the best???

    If the Porsche heads are smart, the should know that the "Turbo" = to HP.

    HP figure is related to sales and image in this model more than any other in the lineup, and the Turbo is often used by media and laypeople as the flagship of Porsche. This model will be used for the comparos against all the other makers' big boys.

    So what ever they have to invest in developing a healthy power figure (they already have the engine developed from the previous gen, and its easily capable of producing much more HP), then they would get many more in retun in sales AND image.

    It would be a REAL shame if they don't hit that psichological 500HP mark at least...

    There's very little room on the back of the car for the badge to read: "Turbo WalMart/Costco."
