FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

AKA, How to defeat the Self-Opening "Feature".

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

    Very Ingenious. Soft buttons!

Maybe you can trim it so it is on the buttons only? Perhaps it will work just as well, but will look neater? Just guessing.

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

    Gawd that looks awful.

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

    Why the Lexus key ring?

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

LOL. I prefer MMD's comment about ingenuity but actually agreed with you: This thing is butt ugly. (Thanks for holding back. ). However version 3B is coming and until then this will have to do. It works wonderfully.

Talk about behavior modification: I found myself changing out of front pocket jeans when I wash my car. Until this mod that is.

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

I wonder who designed this key, probably somebody who is carrying it on a strap around the neck.
No matter which key I have in my pocket (tight jeans, front pocket), my wife's Boxster S key or my 997 CS key, the front hood always pops open. This is clearly a design flaw, I wonder why Porsche didn't do something about it yet.

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

tis not a keyring but another key for another car i think

Amen! Where can we petition for an Audi like folding design?

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

    Hi,

do it the old school way.Open the key get rid of the electronics and your problem is solved.

    cheers

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

What's the deal with this issue guys? When I got the C4s back from the Valet last week - I noticed the hood was open. I thought the guy didn't know how to open the car - so he pressed all the buttons!

    What's the story!?

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

In your case, it probably *was* the guy not knowing which button to push.

What we've been talking about is the poorly designed key. If you leave the key chain in your pocket, in my case most typically tighter front pocket jeans, the OTHER keys in the key chain tends to push that front hood button and opens the hood. For example, this happens when I am washing my car and leaning against the car to wipe the middle of the rooftop.

Like RC said, it IS a design flaw. At least partly because enough people have complained about it. The front hood button is the most protruding/prominent part of the key and therefore is the easiest one to be activated accidentally. I hope Porsche's key engineer is reading rennteam.com.

By putting velcro around the "ridge" of that button, the button cannot now be pushed unless you *really* want to. I used Velcro because it is thick and it has a very strong adhesive back. (The loop, not the hook, or you are going to have all sorts of junks on your key.)

Re: FYI: Solution For the HAUNTED Front Hood

    Bmw key has three buttons:

    1. Lock 2. UNlock 3. trunk

    Porsche has three:

    1. lock AND unlock 2. trunk lid 3. engine lid

Problem is the dual function lock and unlock. You can get mixed up how many (even or odd) times you pushed it. (My car doesn't flash or beep when locking it!)

For my BMW I KNOW if I keep pushing the lock button the car will STAY locked.

    Baaaaaaad key design.

Totally agree. BMW also beeps to confirm locking the doors.
