    Re: E55 vs 996Turbo

Without having driven the 996TT, this is the silliest comparison I have ever heard! Think before you type(yes, yes, lesson I have learned). The E55 may be a high performance sedan, and it may be faster than an 996TT in the straight line but there is really no comparison whatsoever. They are two completely different cars.

Why do you guys always have to get personal when you don't like what you read?

Yes, the E55 is faster on the straight line but only at certain speed ranges. I try to explain:
    1. from 0-100 kph (62 mph), the 996 Turbo usually is faster because of the 4WD and the E55's traction problems.
    2. from 0-200 kph (125 mph), acceleration is practically the same, not much difference, maybe half a car length here and there in the advantage of the one or the other car.
    3. from 0-300 kph (188 mph), the E55 is faster than the 996 Turbo.

The E55 is almost the perfect combo of a family car, daily driver, high power limousine and performance sports car but it is not what I personally would call a true sports car, it is not as much fun as the 996 Turbo and it definetely can't cope with the Turbo on the track or only on some nice deserted country roads.

BTW: the 996 Turbo with Tiptronic stands no chance against the E55, in no speed range. I referred to the 996 Turbo with 6-speed manual transmission.

Don't do it...would be my advise.
Can you fully accelerate in a 60* curve without getting traction problems or the ESP light coming on? The 996 Turbo driver just has to shift down, press the throttle and he's gone.

Well, I am entitled to my opinion? Oh thats right, I am!

E55, not a car for me, never will be.

Isn't it silly, that nowadays, we buy cars depending on how fast they can go round a track?

Nope. Because track capability shows how good a car performs on the street too, especially on roads with curves.
I don't buy cars because of good looks or brand names but because of performance and handling.

Did you ever see an E55 or even a M5 on the track? I did and I almost made in my pants from laughing.

Bilal, I know this sounds a little bit arrogant but: get some more driving experience, get to drive some VERY fast cars for a longer period of time and then we talk again.
20 years ago, I was happy to drive a Fiat 127 Sport with 75 HP and I really thought that anybody driving a 250 HP Porsche must be nuts.
My appetite started with a Lancia Delta HF Integrale, I almost killed myself with this car around 17 years ago. At that time I started to have respect towards such beasts and I learned how to drive them (and I'm still learning... ).
Once you go "wild", you never turn back.

Could'nt agree with you more RC. In order to make good, realistic, and valued judgements you need to have some experience with these kinds of cars before you go blabbing off about them. Just because an editor of your favorite car magazine says that they don't like a particular car doesn't mean that your not going to like either. Everyone is looking for different things. You are more entitled to say what you want so say and believe what you want to believe, but please, "think before you type."

    Re: E55 vs 996Turbo

im not comparising 996turbo and e55. 996turbo is ABSOLUTELY better car for me, i have kids and porsche is just a dream.

I have two kids now, one reason why I sold my Turbo.
Having a "dream" standing in the garage and not being able to drive it isn't a nice dream. So I sold it and I sometimes regret it and get sad when I think about it.
The E55 is a wonderful piece of machine, it provides the perfect combo of family limousine, sports car (by a certain definition) and toy but there is no comparison to the 996 Turbo. I'm talking about feelings and emotions, the 996 Turbo has soul, charisma, something special I can't describe.
When I testdrove the 996 Turbo with 450 HP powerkit and X73 sport suspension last Monday, I felt that "special feeling" in my stomach again. I'm a sports car junky and I can't help it. And please don't laugh: I enjoy my CLK55 AMG loaner much more than my E55. Which reminds me of one thing I really don't understand: why doesn't AMG offer the CLK55 with the supercharged V8? It would be the hell of a car.

my loaner is Smart. could we believe it? i dont want to..my car has the same "electrical problem" as before. ECU change fixed my car, just a couple days. FULL wireharness is coming, if that doesnt help, MB gives a new car. SL600 with good options is a way to go
