    Latest "Car" mag residual..

They quote 911S list Pounds66,000 and after 3yrs Pounds38,000 = 58% , thats the lowest I have seen in a long while and if you list your average options on top and equate the price , then its lost as good as 50%...

Now its not off putting but wheres the old 70% gone ,, guys ?? .

My fellow UK Pal - I'm really worried about you.
Is this a one off or are you gonna start permanently talking to yourself.
Anyway what does CAR magazine know it's showing 66% retained value in Autocar.

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

I need a checkup, i had to read the thread TWICE before finally seeing what's wrong with it

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

Interesting coversation!!! I wouldn't worry about the depreciation so much, when you have your imaginary freind giving you such a hard time. haha

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

    Throt,

Speak to the dealers. They are still managing to sell 12 month old cars at very good money.

Dealer opinion is still approx 70% retained value after 3 years. Now the 996 is a different story. That has been hit quite hard.

    Cheers,

    ...Add

P.S. 12 Months after first deposit, I finally confirmed the spec on Friday. March 1st here we come!!

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

    Throt -

Funny stuff! Next time I go to the UK I am buying you a pint.

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

You're special, throt! If you ever leave this forum, I'll be on the next flight to hunt you down, kick your a$$ and cut your fantabulous hair!

Yeah, I'd love to buy you a pint too (or 2...)!

Agreed. I believe the 997 will retain its value better than the 996 if only for the simple fact that the dealers are not providing discounts on the 997 as large as the 996 (at least for now). The 996s got creamed. I've been trying to sell mine '01 996 Cab for 60% of MSRP and haven't received one inquiry in four weeks. I've seen discount dealers in my area offering '01 996 Cabs with low miles for $44K. That's sad.

PS: Confirmed my 997S Cab delivery today: Nov 15 off the boat.

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

Another Throt Classic. Well done, keep them up.

Oddly enough you should be the least worried about residuals of all of us on here. Or is there something you haven't told us? Do some beans need to be spilt?

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

Persuader ,, dont worry , doc says I am fine and yes Autocar does state 66 % , thats why I was surprised to see the "Car" quote ..

brunner ,, book your appointment via an PM to me ..

POR911 ,, his right a pain in the arse at times..

madadd ,, Congrats on your March 1st delivery ..

SVNSVN & PTM ,, I dont drink guys but this would be an exception ,, lol " hunt me down "

    U BOAT ,, congrats due ..

nick ,, lol a throt classic and no there is not no beans to split but if I did I would not give a damn about residuals

Thanks guys , that was just a mad 5 minutes before I hit the sack last night . Also maybe that "Car" quote was for the 996 , I will have another look just out of interest..

Are dealers are selling used 997s at good money because they are artificially inflating the prices??

I heard the "70% retained value after 3 years" phrase used for the 996 some years ago - funny how the dealers say that, and then when it comes to a finance quote, they best they will give you is "50% retained value after 3 years"... Go figure!

The UK is just catching up to what is happening in the US. Resale values of any Porsche are abysmal. Buy one, take the huge hit and try to enjoy it. Reason is clear. MASS PRODUCTION!

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

    Throt,

It's called oversupply. Someone got their sums wrong on the size of the market for cars at this price point. Porsche are cutting back production next year I believe so that may help but the used car market in the UK is on it's knees at the moment. I traded my 997 C2 in against a used 360 Modena. The Ferrari dealer is part of the same group as the Porsche centre I bought my car from. On paper they gave me Pounds57k for a 6 month old car that cost Pounds68.2k new with only Pounds2k miles on it. It's been transferred to the Porsche dealer who now are advertising it at Pounds66k!!! So look out if you are selling a 997 and watch out if you are thinking of buying used. Either way you'll be shafted by the dealers.

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

nberry ,, Mass production comes from high demand due to these easier purchase plans available at present , but the things is people are then finding out that they cannot afford to run them , due to normal running cost and consumption . So they then sell on at a cost and then this has a knock on effect and causing a new price precedent , still having said this , it would not put me off my potential purchase..

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

Nick you must buy the wrong Porsches.

Some Porsches have superior resale to Ferraris. Example. The US spec 1993-94 Turbo 3.6 S. It sold for 90K then, now they sell for 110K. Porsche only shipped 80 to the US.

And what does a early nineties Ferrari Testarossa sell for now? With lo miles and the 30K service done they sell for the price of a stripped Cayman S.

And just look at Ferrari 348 and Mondial prices. :grin

If you really want exclusivity and harem scarem driving
fun, you should look into getting the a 3.6S or in the UK a 964 RS.

Theres no alphabet soup of electronic handling assists or filtering chassis bits to numb the fun. Definitely not for the feint of heart, the timid or the sleepy.

    Re: Latest "Car" mag residual..

For everybodys interest if your interested . Just looked through " What Car " and they state a residual of 75% retained value after 3yrs with 36,000 miles on the clock ..

    (December 05 issue...)..
