Finally some pics of my 997C2

Sorry guys for taking so long, I would have posted sooner but I've been out D-R-I-V-I-N-G!

Thanks to everyone on this board, I couldn't have gotten throught the last nine months of waiting without rennteam.com

    Here's some first pics:

This is the first thing I see when I open the door to the garage

That's Yogi 'guarding his master's new toy'...

Looks like I need to lower it, or get 19's??

    Sport wheel-must have

    There really is NO SUBSTITUTE

As you can tell, nothing out of the ordinary. In fact this must be the most lightly optioned 911 of all time:

    CarreraC2
    Arctic/black std. interior
    Short shifter
    Sport seats
    Xenons
    Center console in exterior color

To make a long story semi-short on why such a short list; I originally started out on a budget of 50K. Plus I plan on keeping it for at least four years. I also will put quite a few miles on it per year, so purchasing was the only way to go for me. I also never was into the leasing thing.

When I decided to pony up the extra cash, I originally ordered a Boxster S (2/14/05). Awesome car in its own right but I've always wanted a Porsche 911 (even before I got my driver's license 25 years ago). The following week I wound up test driving a 996 (salesman warned me I will not want the 987 after the test drive- he was right!).
So I figured what the hell!! I broke the piggy bank (more like shattered it) and went for my dream car! It's not the fully loaded 'S' that I wish for, but hey I a few years who knows, hopefully it'll be a TT

So far so great. Had the clear bra installed and I love it. I also spent $400+ at Griot's (thanks Stradale-tu culpa! ) I'm so looking forward to keeping her nice and shiny.

The H&R spacers I ordered last week arrived today; I want to get them installed soon as possible. But where? Should I lower it? I'm afraid of making the ride too stiff, and getting squeaks a creaking noises. Should I do it anyway?

Ok, I'm rambling now; I'm just so happy that the ordering process is behind me and the journey I've waited for so long can finally begin! Thanks for letting me share; I'll post better pics from more scenic locations soon.

Ok, that's it....I'm headed back into the garage. I miss my Carrera! Going for another driving session to practice my heel/toe technique
Staying below 4200rpm is KILLING me!!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

    Another beauty Congrats...

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Very nice.. enjoy in good health

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Super nice car - the perfect silver 911. Have a great time with it.

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Congrats! I can see that smile on your face all the way from here

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

    Nice car,
enjoy, don't apologize for light spec's on the car.
I order my 911's the same way, you said"It's not the fully loaded 'S' that I wish for" oh yeah - when you go to sell or trade the car for your TT you will be happy not to have the fully speced "S".
I had/have H&R springs/coilovers on both my 911's and I think you MUST go for them. the ride will be much firmer, but the look and control of the the car totally change. there will be bumps and creeks etc. maybe even old hit the front fender on the parking spot stopper, but I still think it was worth it/ more so on my C2 than my Turbo !!!

good luck with the car, enjoy/safe

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Even Yogi can feel your sense of pride.Another beautiful Porsche. Enjoy

If all were sensible like this the options would be so much cheaper..

    Congrats , very nice ..

    Congrats man, nice car
So you can't afford a Carrera S, but the most important thing is that you did it, you went out a bought the car of your dreams.

As 4Car said: "Don't eat, don't sleep, just get the Porsche."

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

As my West Indian neighbour said to me when I got my first new (B-mer) car: "Nice car, Mon". Doesn't matter what options you have - enjoyment of the experience is the key. Temm got it right on.

    Congrats, Dude.

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Nice. Did you find yourself sitting in the car after waking up at 3AM?

I recommend after 500 miles you allow yourself to rev up to 5200-5500 (insted of the 4200 like the apparently only the american owners manual sez). After the difficult wait there's no need to let the breakin procedure be your next PITA.

Oh, don't forget to be shifting (varying engine speed) every two or three minutes (no kidding). No such thing as shifting too much at first.

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

    Awesome! Congratulations!

    Love the interior!

    Enjoy your baby!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

lol, that's beautiful! Congrats again, ship mate. rofl!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Beautiful! Love your color combo! I am sure it feels great to finally get it! ENJOY!!!!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Enjoy your car !I too, have a C2, and have now 3400 miles on it. The more I drive the better she behaves. Only YOU care whats in the car, the world has no idea on building Porsches. Enjoy and ride safe !

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

    She's a beauty!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

    nice ride!

can u give us a report on the sport shifter??

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Thanks for the kind words all

Boy I tell ya- it's still almost surreal to me at this point. I find myself still oggling the catalog at work (as if the car hasn't arrived yet), then snap to the realization the car actually is in my garage

ARMD009 - I'm seriously contemplating lowering the car; I want to put more miles on it (as well as stare/drool at my car) before making that decision.
No question the car would look better

MMD- I find myself taking many unnecessary trips to the garage at all times throughout the day. Hell, here at work I go out to check on the car constantly.
    It's SICK!
    I'M SICK!!
I know, but I'm ok with that!!
As for break-in, I have been sticking to the 4200rpm limit so far but I'm constantly downshifting and accelerating (very constantly!). When I accelerate, it ranges from brisk "rolling the right foot" to "stomp the pedal on the floor" right up to 4200rpm. I find the cars response to throttle/steering and brake inputs just amazing. So the Euro manuals don't mention the 4200rpm/2K break in limit?

derder - I've owned several cars with short shifters throughout the years, and I knew that when I ordered this car it was on my 'must have' list. Aside from that, the throws are significantly shorter than the 996 I test drove last May, alot less slop as well. Positive engagement in all gears, no issues with stifness or synchros as of yet. The stifness factor of rowing from gear to gear is a relative thing of course, I'm used to how a short shifter feels and expect that sort of feel. It's very 'positive' feeling, and adds 'confidence' to my driving experience. I fell more 'connected' to the car. If you are thinking of adding it to yours I would highly suggest it

I spent the weekend painting the inside of the garage at my new house. Almost done; got an estimate on the epoxy floor coating and picked a couple sets of low voltage halogen cable track lights to mount on the ceiling. They should spotlight the 997 just right me thinks

Oh did I happen to mention how much I'm DIGGIN' my new ride?!!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

    Lovely!

Re: Finally some pics of my 997C2

Awesome! Looks great. Good boy Yogi.
