Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

Factory 996 Turbo with Powerkit and X73 Sport Suspension.
The car also had a short shifter(!) installed, this option is now available from Porsche.
A driving report with more pictures will follow over the next few days!
Only one hint: the X73 sport suspension is really worth it's money!

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

Can't wait for the report. I love those painted Techno wheels they look awsome , wow!!!!

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

Love the techno, but not painted. Post the report ASAP

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    Techno wheels look fantastic!
But am I wrong or are they painted on the inside and not on the outside?
    Fanch.

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    Oooohh, they are painted technos????

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

Hmmmm, this looks to be accessorized just like the Cayenne photo you posted (except for the roof rack ). This is Lapis Blue, correct? It looks nice. Is Lapis Blue with painted Technos and Tequipment exhaust tips the theme of the day?

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

You are right, they are painted inside and that looks good

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

The color is Embassy Blue. Maybe one of the other pictures (soon to be published) shows the color much better. I'm afraid you can't see the color too well because we had pretty bad weather and the pictures aren't too clear.

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    Wow...looks great...and i think will run good!!

can't wait to see the reportage!

    X73 vs H&R.

I know you have experienced both H&R and Porsche's sport suspension. I was thinking of switching to X73. Can you give us more information on the suspension system, driving impression compare to H&R if any?

I'd say that the X73 is much better adapted to the 996 Turbo than the H&R coilover kit I had.
Side roll further reduced, comfort (or better stiffness ) practically the same, less understeer and better oversteer control. I also had the impression that steering feels more precise and less nervous than with my former H&R kit.
However I have to point out that I had one of the first H&R kits available for the 996 Turbo by that time and it is my understanding that the kit has been improved.

I also have the mk1 of the H&R, the steering felt nervous on mine especially at high speed, due to lack of ride height and camber adjustment. Interestingly, the X73 is made by H&R also.

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

Is the X73 the same as the ROW suspension that many of us purchased from Europe when the 996 tts first came out?

RC, how would you compare this color to midnight blue, for example?

    Great photo...

Sydney, I'm not good in comparing colors.
I'd say that Embassy Blue is darker and less "shiny" than the Midnight Blue but it is really difficult for me to describe a color.

No, X73 is not the regular ROW suspension, it is a suspension which lowers the ROW height further by 20 mm. Of course it also includes different dampers, springs, etc.
We were very surprised by the perfect setup but we didn't testdrive it on the track, so maybe it is not that perfect. All we can say is that it is a must-have on the 996 Turbo, especially if one is a fast driver. For daily driving in cities with lots of bumps and holes it might be the wrong choice.

    Usability of X73

Further to RC's post on the X73 option I would like to even expand RC's recommendation. I have been driving a car with x73 option for five months now. I 100% agree that the setup is close to perfect: very precise, very sporty and in the meantime well suited for day-to-day use (no problems in inner city driving, parking garages) with a reasonable level of comfort left.

    Highly recommended

    Re: Usability of X73

IS THERE A lightweight alternative to the TT wing mechanism? how much does the one you show weigh?
does the x73 bring the TT suspension up to the gt2/gt3 suspension? is it as adjustable??
    thanks

The only lightweight alternative would be to get the GT2 body kit (front and rear) made of composite material. Very expensive and not available from Porsche.
The Turbo Aerokit is not weight optimised and as with all Porsche Aerokits, forget about any real aerodynamical advantage.
As far as I know, the X73 is not adjustable, especially because of the 4WD system.

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    RC?
Any more pics of that beautiful turbo coming soon?
    Thanks,
    Fanch.

I'll post more pictures and maybe a short driving report.
I didn't have much time lately, sorry.

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

Still no pictures...I can't wait seeing other pics! This TT is superb!

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    RC,
with that suspension, the 996TT becomes a good open road racing candidate.

do you know if there is any way to get a 21 gal gas tank for a US car?

    thanks

    Not possible in the Turbo.

    Re: Usability of X73

X73 on the 01 Turbo here and IMO its the best setup for the car for those who want it to still be a streetable car and dont need an adjustable setup.

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

wow... nice wheels! the car somehow looks something new to me... unlike those Techarts and HREs

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

I just wanted to thank the members of rennteam and this thread. Reading the comments in this thread convinced me to purchase the x-73 and a B&m short shifter for my 03, x-50. In my humble opinion it now rides like a porsche should. Thanks for the input RC. Fish

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    Fish - You've got a PM...

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    the car is gorgeous!

Re: Rennteam testdrove a very special 996 Turbo today

    RC

Any idea when you will post the drive report. I ordered the X50 and X73 after reading the various threads and am interested in your views.
