Tequipment options update for MY 2006

    Here we go:

    1. powerkit finally available for retrofit, cost is 10231 Euro incl. 16% german VAT. Interested customers should also add the install cost which isn't too cheap. The powerkit retrofit is only available for the Carrera S and Carrera 4S incl. Cab versions starting with cars manufactured August 2005. This is pretty strange, we're still trying to find out why because this would mean that launch and pre-launch cars sold to customers/dealers are not retrofittable.

    2. The 19'' Carrera Sport rims are available with wider rear tires for ALL other 997 models (not only the 4S and 4S Cab), incl. Cab versions. Rim size is 11.5'', tire size would be 305/30, offset of the rear rims is 67. The front rims also come in 8.5'' size, tire size stays the same. The available spacers are not approved for these rims.

    3. Rear spacers 5 mm on all four wheels are approved now for all 997 models, incl. Cabs and 4S models. The 17 mm spacers for the rear wheels are only approved for the 4/4S models incl. Cabs to adjust the gap when using winter wheels with smaller rear tires (Carrera Sport and Carrera S rims with 11'' rear rims only).

    4. Porsche Sport Exhaust finally available for ALL 997 models, incl. the 997 Carrera.

I was looking for the new handbrake/gearbox knob design Dilinger told you about a few days ago but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be such a thing and I have all pictures in front of me. Maybe Dilinger could post pictures or describe how they look.

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Could imagine the powerkit demands modifications that haven't been installed on cars prior Aug 05.

There is indeed a Tequipment shifter as Dillinger mentioned, have seen it on some auto show already.

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

So RC you are telling me my MY2006 july 05 build cannot be powerkit retrofitted?

There are even several Tequipment shifters in wood (different wood types) and carbon. But they look all practically the same, not much difference to the stock shifter, at least not worth mentioning it. I thought Dilinger was referring to something spectacular, like the Exclusive gear knob for example with that Porsche crest on it. Very nice, had it on my 996 Turbo too.

The only thing I can tell you is that the technical specs require cars built during or after August 2005. Unfortunately this excludes my car too, mine is built in march 2005, even before the official presentation.
We're still working on finding out the reason for this "requirement", I'm pretty curious. I doubt it is a typo but who knows, maybe they meant MY 2005?!

Wasn't your car built in March 2004?

That is what I was thinking. Didn't you want to say August 2004 ?

Of course you're right, March 2004 I would like to tell you guys that I had too much Tequila...for an excuse...but unfortunately I think I just need a vacation...work, family, kids, Rennteam, cars, too many things at the same time. Of course you're right, Phil. Sorry.

So it is even worse...no car built during MY 2005 can actually be retrofitted with the powerkit. Sad news.
I still don't understand the reason but I'm sure that we'll find out sooner or later.

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

I really like the Carrera Sport wheels. They're really very attractive. I would post a photo but I don't see the wheel yet on Porsche's websites. It's also available for the Boxster, and the Cayman too I suppose.

    You wish...

So Dillinger, is this the gearknow you were referring about? I just had a very short glimpse on it and it looked better in my memory than on that picture above...

It does look like it, yes!

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Ugly shifter .. kind of busy looking ...

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

are the brochures on the new Tequipment out yet? They still haven't updated the websites for USA and Can. Are there optional stainless steel exhaust tips?

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Anyone know if the auto - dimming rear view mirrors are available for the 997? Tequipment had this option for the 996 and I thought the 997 could be upgraded as well (speaking for those that did not get this option from the factory)?

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Love those Carrera Sports they look so tough. Just changed my order to include them.

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

I chose the XRR(Carrera Sports) for my SCab x51 Nov. build as well.
I like the look of the wider 11.5 rears

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

i saw the new gearknob in the new exlusive catalogue.

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Is the picture of the shift knob in this thread the standard knob on an 06 997S?

    Thanks.

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Very strange - look at the manufacturer's certification which shows C2S MY 2005 !!

Re: Tequipment options update for MY 2006

Thanks for the news on 997 'extras'. Please tell me about the sport exhaust? (cat back?)I have been a little disappointed in the sound quality of the 3.6L flat-6 after the NSX. The latter had a character filled sound from 4-8K rpm, while the 997 under full throttle is 'loud' without much change in character until almost 7K, when the sound changes, but it sounds almost ready to quit -- as opposed to the NSX. Don't get mad with me --I love the car! I would not like any (much) more noise at cruising revs than now, as the 911 is very nice on a longer freeway drive, but more character, and even more enthusiasm to move from 6500 to 7300 rpm would be nice! The 997 has done almost 4000km, so it may improve at the top end? Thanks KiwiCanuck
