I'm far from prescient, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were no GT2 but will be a GT2RS.

The market for old-school GT2 is pretty well covered by the Turbo S except for the two-wheel-drive aspect.  Back in the day, two-wheel drive was thought to attract track/sport drivers when AWD wasn't so advanced as now.  "Real" track drivers would prefer an RS version over the street-style version, it seems to me.  Why make a non-RS version at all?

Haven't we already established that there is going to be a GT2 RS?

Yes, of course.  But some people seem to have missed it.

So no GT2, just GT2 RS??? Nahhh... that would be unlike Porsche.

It's been confirmed for ages that there is no GT2. Just GT2RS.

You have been to involved in Trump bashing to even noticed.

"[The motor is in the] Cup, GT3 R, RSR, and then the street car will follow," Dr. Walliser told Road & Track. "It's a new direct-injection, Gen. II, GT3 RS naturally aspirated four-liter engine.

When asked for a timeline on the next GT3's arrival, Dr. Walliser said "not eventually, shortly."

That does it. The current GT3 motor will forever have its bad reputation for letting go cemented.  It sound like 'shortly' is code for 'to stop engines free m blowing up'. Doubt they will retrofit the new motor.  Some GT3s are resale winners and I guess these current ones are the losers.  Always glad to be holding on to my old mezger turbo.

I am hoping to see a 992 thread on rennteam and the real thing.  After seeing the new Panamera interior, considering to buy a 991 targa gave an already outdated feeling although the greatness of the overall car.

Too early for a 992 thread but maybe next year... Smiley

Saw a 992(?) Cab mule yesterday (Sunday) with LB license plates. I was in my R8 and tried to follow but the driver realized that I turned around and he tried to escape (which he did) because I couldn't drive over a red light. Smiley

Interesting: The car had US turning lights (red instead of yellow).

    Re: Mid-engine 911?

    RC:
The next Porsche sportscar platform will support mid engined setups as well. This is the same platform VW Group will use for the next generation Huracan and (maybe, if they don't scratch it completely) R8. It is a very flexible platform which will also be used for the next generation 911.

I think this platform sharing stuff is diluting Porsche as a brand and as a product. Yes, the Porsche version will be the sportier one, but the difference is at the edges.

    Re: Mid-engine 911?

Yes and no. Since the sports car platform within the VW Group is a Porsche development, I think Porsche is just fine.

Porsche is also developing the other models for the VW Group and once the base work is finished, Audi and Co. will take over and mold these products to their liking. I think this quite fascinating, especially since the Porsche platform will be used for the next R8 (if there will be one), the next Huracan and apparently for the next Aventador as well.

I am a bit worried about the next gen Cayenne though...not that it really matters.
