    Thx cwb. 20 years of waiting was well worth it. Every time I get in my car I get a big smile on my face. My wife gave me a hard time with it (and still kinda does) but I have no guilty feelings about this indulgence, maybe its because I waited so long and feel satisfied that I've taken care of the family first and I don't feel the pressure of payments etc etc.

    People should do whatever they feel comfortable with as far as their financial affairs are concerned but I for one will promote financial stability before purchasing what is an over the top indulgence like this. If you are blessed with having the means to buy one of these cars at a young age ie your 20's the only advice I could give is .. be safe with it and appreciate what you have. I know if I got this car in my 20's I may have not reached this age as I, like many younger people took speed for granted.

    In fact when I was in my 21 I got in a horrific car crash (hit black ice by myself) and ended up with cracked c5-c6 vertebrae and in a halo vest for 3 months. Let me tell you, do I ever appreciate this car.

    These cars are so much fun to drive but be safe out there everyone please. Know your driving limitations, when you can speed and when not to and don't put anyone in your car or others on the road at risk.

    I'm 38 and bought my first Porsche, a 997. I waited 22 years since getting the porsche bug and worth the wait!

    First Porsche (911SC) in 1979, 2nd one (Carrera) in 1985, 3rd one in the early '90's, and at long last a new '06 997S as a 47th B-day present to myself. I've had a bunch of other fun cars in between - but, nothing that compares to the new 997!

    1st PCar at 22 (1985 944), 2nd PCar at 42 (2005 911s)

    + 1 beautiful wife and 2 wonderful girls (ages 4 and 6). What more can a man ask for! We go riding as a family all the time, its great!

    My 997 Cabrio had its birthday on 9/14 and by the time I get it the weather will be perfect in Florida. So I will be looking forward to the warm winter nights here! I am leaving for South Africa on Thursday where its Spring. I am covering all the seasons this fall.

    47, bought a used 914 around age 20, then bought a used 1972 911T 2.4 followed by a used 1982 911 SC (only 2000 miles on odometer but still used), and then 22 years later purchased my first new 997S in November of last year and plan to stick with Mr. P. for some time. There is nothing like a Porsche and I've owned quite a few automobiles except exotics to campare it to (anything over $100K is exotic to me).

    51. First one was 993 C back in '94. Now it is 11 years old and to be traded in for the '06 Carrera S very soon.

    Ordered at 33, should arrive when I'm 34.

    Will pay cash, and it was after very hard work in setting-up an IT company that eventually did well after struggling with business for couple of years, but now things are great.

    So I guess I deserve a little indulgence, although I do feel a bit of guilt every once in a while for ordering it. I don't think I'll let clients see me in the 997, that's why I'm keeping my 5-series.

    Most of the Porsche (911) owners I see around here are older than I am, and I am 52. I think the people on this board tend to be younger - not that its a problem, but it kind of skews the statistics.
