    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

My path was from realizing that I couldn't enjoy a real sport car with my family, that my wife would complain if I drove fast cars at 7/10th and that I would loose my license and my professional reputation in a matter of weeks just trying to push a very fast car on the road.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

Maybe also because we are getting older? I realize that I am going through the same path as you describe above: Driving a 991 GT3 RS currently, I have an open order for 675 LT Spider which is far above the GT3 RS in terms of performance (especially acceleration), but while waiting for the LT, everytime I am driving the RS I say to myself that the RS is probably more enjoyable with its NA engine noise which is far nicer IMO compared to the LT...

Until a couple a days ago when I realized the above, there was only 1 thing which mattered for me: Best performance, and on track in particular (I drive many trackdays).

I am turning 46 in a couple of months...

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

Definitely getting old is a key factor. I drive more calm now and I don't need to demonstrate to others nor to me that I can drive fast. I enjoy my moment at 7/10 ths (something I wasn't able 10 years ago). The feelings of driving the GT4 are all I need. I've had faster cars but I don't miss them now!

    i am 50....

Age is a factor. A couple of years ago, my priorities started to shift. Unfortunately this process costed me a lot of Money because I got myself cars I wanted but didn't really like. Perception and fun have become priorities over pure performance numbers, so maybe some food for thought.

Indeed age plays a role, nowadays engine sound is essential while 10years ago , power was the first priority. Classic cars are growing on me too, with age.

To be blunt, I couldn't care less about professional reputation. I have experienced a couple of deaths (family, patients I really grew fond of) lately and I realized that family and enjoying life count most. Everything else...well... Smiley I am not a religious person, so my pragmatism tells me to enjoy every bit of life because it can end pretty fast and while professional reputation could continue to survive, I am still dead, so whats the point?! If people can afford a car like a 488 or whatever, they should go for it. Life can end sooner than people think and no matter who we are or who we were, we all are going to end up as dust in the universe. Smiley  Smiley

Actually, I do not regret not getting the Huracan. Driving is basically the same but with less stress from my (social) environment. Also, I save a lot of money due to the much lower lease/maintenance cost.

I regret three things only: Getting the Boxster S, the Panamera Turbo S and...sadly...the 991.2 Turbo S. Burned around 70k EUR in the process, not as much as people would think, luckily but enough to make me remember it. Never again.

The Cayenne replaces my wife's Macan and is more fun to drive than the Macan, believe it or not. A SUV needs to feel like a SUV and the increased capacity of the Cayenne air suspension and probably better sensor/adjustment tech give the Cayenne a much calmer feel at high speeds and especially in curves. I actually thought the Cayenne S Diesel had PDCC...until I realized that there is no PDCC for the S Diesel. Smiley Also, the Cayenne interior provides a more luxurious high quality feel than the Macan interior. But again...this is my wife's car, not mine and believe it or not, my wife still doesn't like the Cayenne too much but the switch saves her some money (3-4k EUR for the next 18 months) and it solves a couple of problems with luggage room for future family vacations.

Maybe this will make everyone happy

The RS6 was a huge disappointment for me. I'd prefer a Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S over it anytime. Even the SQ7 was more fun. Had a new RS6 Performance as a loaner for a week and while it is fast, it is not as much fun driving as I imagined before. Even had the Akrapovic exhaust system, which sounded like crap. Smiley

Surprise indeed, the RS6 seems to have it all, powerful V8, aggressive look, lots of space, nice interior and I thought sport character too! The SQ7 being more fun than RS6 really doesn't make sense but I believe you.

If you want to go to the track, the RS6 probably makes more sense than the SQ7 of course but honestly, I had more fun in powerful SUVs than in the RS6.

The RS6 is very fast, a real delight on the Autobahn and it looks very good (actually, the RS6 is in my opinion the best looking station wagon on this planet...maybe until the Panamera Sport Turismo arrives but it remains to be seen).

Everything else...well...as a family car, it doesn't have room enough in my opinion, a SUV feels roomier and safer. The emphasis is on "feels" but this is a very important feeling for the family.

Yes, the RS6 is faster than a Cayenne Turbo or a SQ7, no question but the fun factor is just higher with the Cayenne Turbo or the SQ7 in my opinion. Don't forget that the Cayenne Turbo weights only 100 kg or so more than the RS6. Smiley

It may be a thing of personal preference (I always had a thing for powerful SUVs) but I would really prefer the SQ7 or the Cayenne Turbo over the RS6, as weird as this may sound.

I am surprised myself that I'm saying this, I almost got myself a RS6 Performance but it was a good thing I had the RS6 for a week because I realized that this is not the car for me. Amazing station wagon though!
