    Why are mitsubishi evos so fast???

    I dont get it. I'm amazed at howmuch power they get with the turbo out of a 2liter but still sounds too fast for the weight. Its pretty light but not that light. In a top gear test of it against the wrx sti, it got a faster lap than the gt3, Maybe the gt3 was in the wet track but it was harldy behind the gallardo. I can't figure out why this car is so fast and why not get it. Bad quality, bad reliability, low top speed??? Its not midegngine, or anything special.....

    Coz that engine been around for ages now.... tuners now it inside out, But i heard when you tune it it not so reliable after that.

    heres the good news.. It has a 10 year warranty.

    Heres the bad news... Insurance is sky high, humble econo sedan body,new model due out next fall.

    They are solid well built awd econo sedan rocketships.

    What was the horsepower figure that you've been hearing? Oweners repeatedly reported higher figures when dynoed. In addition, Japanese car manufactureres agreement limited the advertising of their cars' horsepower up to 280hp.

    Also remember that electronically controlled AWD controls torque distribution based on yaw rate! for cars sold in Japan and Europe. I believe that this system is intentionally omitted in US verisons.

    The Evo's a very competant car.
    Loads of grip yet its not that hard to get the back end out.

    From what i've heard they are quite hardy also.
    You can modify the life out of them and they'll still be
    reliable and good enough to use everyday.

    mmmmmmm evo's are very nice, i especially like the new evo9 it looks better than the 8, more like the older versions like the 7. Evo's are quite nice. Granted they wont be a sturdy as what many of the higher end car buyers will expect, but if you are looking for cheap frills look no further than the EVO/STi

    I dont want to hurt anyonees feelings but when they tested the murcialago against the fancy pants evo 8 (the limited version)..I laughed. That show is a joke, if they were scientists they would be bill nyes retarded twin.

    To bad Mitsu has cancelled hundreds of them....
    Okay, buy an Evo and race it! But if we find out
    you have say bye-bye to the warranty! Mitsi was going as far as
    contacting the SCCA, and checking web-sites to "black list" owners....Mitsu SUCKS.

    On a road course it is pretty fast - probably similar to a base 997...

    Gotta agree, they have no top end....
    They shine on small, tight tracks....if there are long straights...they have trouble.

    we gotta make sure we are all talking about the same EVO's... the one top gear tested was the FQ400 (400hp!) the ones we get here in the states is the base evo (280hp or so) then the stripped RS version then the evo MR which is the most expensive with a little bit more hp (about 10) but has better shocks, aluminum roof... etc etc.

    All the evo's and STi's arnt gonna be as fast topend as many 2wd cars with better gearing for highspeeds... even on long straights the evo's and sti's dont do too shabby (T2 STi's got a 1-2 finish this years SCCA runoffs beating out M3's, camaro's, 350z's, and etc) and the track the runoffs were on is pretty tight (midohio) but does have some fast sections, the back straight (with my stock STi) my instructor his 130mph.

    They pull pretty well up to 140mph or so and then start to taper off. Remember that they have more torque than a 997 and just a bit less power, so they don't really suffer that much in a straight line on most tracks. Even their Nurburgring time (very fast track) is just over 8 min - about same as 997 with PASM...

    Very good car(as the sub sti):
    Certainly the ultimate choice if you live in the country with changing weather conditions, and if you prefer to drive fast on very small turny roads than on motorways.
    Never forget that these cars are designed to follow the WRC rules, and that they are raced on very different conditions:sand, mud, gravel, asphalt, wet asphalt....

    Not 100% correct dude..
    Depending on the, model some Evo's are quite strong
    in the higher gears as well.
    FQ400 is deadly in first and 2nd.... The acceleration
    DOES die out a bit at higher speeds, but it will still
    easily run away from a Carrera for example (unfortunatley)

    You guys indeed mix up a few things.

    The Nurburgring time for both STi and Evo VII are slightly below 8:30 min.

    The FQ400 is HEAVILY modified by Mitsubishi GB and demanded several changes on the engine to achieve this output - including huge turbolag. The downside of all this is a ridiculous gasmileage - apart from that there is nothing really spectacular on the engine side.

    The suspension / AWD looks indeed quite sophisticated, the FQ400 runs on Cup tires though which does make it significantly faster. The funny thing on the TopGear issue was the fact that the Murcielago was significantly faster than the FQ400 when they were timed independently!

    Little side note, the warranty might be 10 years in the US but definately not in Europe.
