GT3 temperature controls

On Saturday, on Car and Driver TV, they performed a first test on a red GT3.
The interesting thing was that this one instead of having a digital temparature, climate control system, it had a 2 dials.
Personally I like the look of this system better than the digital one in my car ( I hate the orange display).
How many of you have a temp system like this (with dials)?
Can the digital system be changed on my car?

this probably was the standard heating system, not the optional A/C you've got on your GT3. would have saved some weight as well, but retrofitting to standard heating is impractical if not impossible IMO.

Right, this is the the standard system without A/C.

The climate control unit on the A/C looks too much Audi (well, this is where it comes from...

), I don't like it too but being without A/C during hot summers isn't too good either.

RR,

Since this was Car & Driver, my guess is the car they tested was the red GT3 that PCNA had at the PCA Parade in Tampa and at Barber Motorsports Park for demos. This is a US spec car which all have AC. However, if you don't specify option code 573, you don't get the auto climate control AC system. I think the dials you saw are for the manually controlled AC system.

I'm almost positive if you don't order option #573 Climate Control you don't get A/C. I was in that Red GT3 at Parade and there's no snowflake on the dash with dials indicating A/C. The following picture of the engine compartment of that car also lacks the hoses that would be running to the A/C compressor where the airbox mates to the MAF sensor housing:

Then I was told wrong by my dealer, which is no surprise. I specifically asked about AC delete and was told that all US cars have AC. My salesman told me that if you don't order 573, you don't get the full automatic comfort control version, you get a manual version where you have to set the fan speed and temp slider yourself.

There is no "manual" A/C control for the 996.

If it has A/C, it is automatic with the display.
If it has no display, it has no A/C.

My dealer sent me the September 23rd GT3 order guide which now states under the "Standard equipment includes:" section:

4 Position Manual Ventilation Control without Air Conditioning

On page 11 of the order guide there are now 2 no charge A/C related options (I assume you have to pick one):

#573 A/C with Full Climate Control
#574 No Air Conditioning Desired

I guess they're trying to clear up the confusion. Nah, this is Porsche we're talking about. Confusing is the rule.

So this only further confirms what an idiot my dealer is. This is the same guy who told me no Euro delivery on the GT3, only for me to find out that at least two people picked up their cars at the factory in May. Two full months before I could get my hands on the car after it sat in Baltimore awaiting EPA approval.
