Funny how this thread has gone from comparing 997s/BMW m6 to ferrari vs porsche. From this I take it that people are saying that the 2 most venerable brands of sports cars in the world are ferrari and porsche. BMW just can't be compared any of these cars as at the end of the day, its a sedan - period. Nevertheless suffice to say everyone's tastes have to be respected. F-cars are beautiful pieces of machinery and there are certain styles that I prefer over others however, what bothers me about ferrari is that they are constantly changing the design of their cars and IMHO this waters down their brand image. I'm not going to compare an F430 to a carrera (especially 997) simply because this p-car hits all my sweet spots for looks and performance and that's why I bought one. There are certain product designs that are timeless and hopefully porsche will continue to stay true to the 911 design - after all after so many years of a shape being around and succesfully appealing to a significant portion of the population it can't be a mistake. Having said that I would love to have an F car in my stable and I think guys like Stradale have the ideal situation but if I can only choose one, than it has to be a 911.

As I said before, the M6/M5 will crush the 997s in a straight line acceleration race.

At least the 997s will still look beautiful in the rearview and side mirrors of the M5/M6.

Keywords being "straight line" - throw some twisties in there and a Beemer would be beautiful (to me at least) slowing down to compensate for inferior steering and handling...

The Autocar 2005 drivers' car of the year is "997 Carrera S" and the M5 was not one of the top 3.

The M6 comes pretty close: honking great big engine upfront, based on a sedan's underpinnings. Sounds Camaro or Mustang like to me! And boy could those cars ever handle!

Me too. I think the 3 and 5series models are now much better and modern looking than the older models.

I personally like the look of the 6series/M6, but I totally understand why people hate it. It really is a love it or hate it car.

Guys 0-60 the M6 will not beat the 997S but after a 1/4 mile it will pull away. Still, considering 355 h.p. vs. 500 h.p. the 997S will stand it's own ground well
