    GT3 to a 997S?

    Anyone go this direction?

Love track cars, but since life has gotten in the way of track outings, it's become difficult to enjoy the GT3. Thinking a 997S may be more suitable for my needs.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

not a GT3, but a Turbo. Glad I made the switch.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

My migration path is from 997S to 997TTS.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

wait 6 month .....and decide .

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

Can someone enlighten me as to the driving difference between the GT 3 / 2's vs the Turbo's? That is aside from the obvious power increase. Thanks!

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

    I did this terrible mistake.
I used to have a 2001 model GT3 395hp (modified) and i sold it for a 997s Cabrio. I have my 997s for 7 months now and i am selling it...
It is a very fast DAILY car which cant be compared with my old Gt3. (In driving pleasure)
It doesnt need any special driving skills (like turbo) and if you go really fast with 997s you will get killed.
If you want a car though ONLY to go to your work buy it. If you drive really fast not only in tracks but on the road too keep your Gt3

For this reason i am searching now to buy a Gt2, and for my daily car i bought a A3 turbo Dsg

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

I wouldnt go for a GT2 right now, I was on the phone with my dealer and he told me that he was told that the deliveries of the 997TT will be earlier than he thought, and that I will be able to spec my car in March for a May or June delivery, so if I were you, I would just wait until then...

Hey bro. Was the GT3 your everyday car???
I'm thinking of getting myself a GT3/RS but was thinking about the results of having such a extreme car as a daily runner...

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

sergini, why do you recommend waiting?

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

because the new Gt3 seems to be more usable for daily drivers .....
much confortable ....if you configure the Gt3 for the street ...and more straght ...if u configure the GT3 for track use (clubsport)

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

GT3 experts....please explain why you can't use a GT3 as an everyday car. Sorry, I have never been even been inside one.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

The GT2 is the fastest Porsche car short of the Carrera GT of course but still very close to the Carrera GT as well. The GT2 is Turbocharged but not a 4 wheel drive. It's lighter and faster than the Turbo. The GT2 is not an easy car to drive, you have to be a skilled driver otherwise you will lose the car once you step on it. The GT3 is the fastest normal aspirated Porsche ever. Again not a 4 wheel drive but gr8 handling + crisp acceleration with a top end as high as the Turbo but a bit slower off the line. The GT3 would not be a gr8 choice as a daily driver either, rough ride and a loud engine. Turbo is the most civilized of the three, fast, nimble and user friendly. I have had 5 Porsche's in the past and I just bought an 06 997S and I think it's a gr8 car. Off the line very close to the 996 Turbo with a handling and braking to match and much better price

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

    Nice explaination edz61.

It could certainly be used as a daily driver. The only limitations are the low ride height (need to take dips and driveways at an angle to avoid scraping the nose), firm suspension (not that harsh), and stiff clutch. I could live with it daily with no complaints

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

Firs of all i believe that the last sport car that Porsche produced (Except CGT GT3 and GT2) was 993 turbo.
After 993 Porsche decided to produce Fast cars for daily use that can be driven by all people... for this reason porsche made So big sales and earned so much money that bought 20% of VW !!!!

Lets go to our subject now...
The thing though i try to explain is that if you are a medium driver without many skills yes you can choose a Turbo or a 997S. It is the best car you can buy, and also it is extremely fast.
If you are a MANIAC like me if you buy a Turbo or a 997S you will be very dissapointed. These are daily very fast cars... In order to understand what i mean your mothers can also drive a turbo or a 997S with no problem at all... they can even go for shopping with these cars... They can also drive these cars fast and with safety in the rain too.
    but they cant drive a gt2 or a gt3.

When i drive my 997S i feel like i am a castrated driver.

For this reason i bought a Audi A3 turbo to go to my work (as a daily car). and now i am thinking of buying a Gt2 to replace my 997S.

I wonder how the F430 will be.........

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

    Bump

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

Get a 997S with -20mm and it is to all intents and purpose not that different. You will miss the extra surge of the last few hundred revs but other than that it handles very similarly and is just as adjustable on track. 997's do lose alos a little feel in the steering but honestly if you are not tracking it all the time you won't suffer.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

While I would agree JJ, unfortunately we can't get -20 in the US. I even wrote a letter to the PCNA President pleading my case, but to no avail. It seems folks in the US after improved response have been fitting their PASM cars with lowering spring from H&R.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

    Stick with a GT3 then

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

If you go really fast you can get killed in any car. If you are a good driver you won't, as long as you know the limits of your car. You can not compare GT3 with 997S, it's not a fair comparison. Frankly the old GT3 looks ugly next to the 997S, 996GT3 with the narrow body and picnic table spoiler just doesn't do it for me, but it's a hell of car to drive. Now everycar has it's limits, GT3 or GT2 and CGT, push beyond their capability and you will be dead.

    Re: GT3 to a 997S?

I picked up a 997S today. Building a new race car as well. Tired of the dual purpose thing.
