I'm very interested in this too. I'll have plenty of legroom, but I'm wondering about the headroom. I noticed that the 997 has more headroom than the 996, so I hope the Cayman has as much or more headroom than the 997 (no sunroof will help)...

I drove the Cayman S, and I'm 6"2. I had plenty of headroom. The Cayman S has no sunroof, so headroom in abundance. I don't think I had the seat back all the way while driving. I'm pretty sure you will be fine. Have you tried a new Boxster? That is comparable to the Cayman S.

From the Porsche Cayman S Product Information booklet (section 12.7 Interior Dimensions):
Effective headroom, front (mm/in)
MY06 Cayman S = 959/37.8
MY06 Boxster S = 972/38.3
MY06 911 Carrera = 974/38.3 (w/o sliding roof), 966/38 (w. sliding roof)
I just pasted this directly from the document. No idea why they say 972mm = 38.3in for the Boxster S and 974mm = 38.3in for the 911 Carrera. I think the metric -> imperial conversion is flawed. The original source is at:

Ok now, I'm about 6'7'' and I did have trouble in the 986.
The 997 I have now is great.
I sat in the Cayman for a couple of times and the headroom is better than in the 986, not quite as comfortable as the 997, though.
AFAIC, the best difference to the 986/987, there is no wall directly behind you, therefore you feel a lot more cozy!
