    Speeding

A very mean cop gave me a speeding ticket on a road with no cars, no driveway, nothing on the street, and it is impossible to hit anything. 10 mph over the speeding limit of 35mph.
Are they targeting to Porsche? (M3 no ticket)
Should i get a radar redector?

    Re: Speeding

Sorry to hear about that. One problem with the Porsche compared to the M3 is that the style of the car makes it more prone to speeding tickets. It isn't a flashy car, but it's instantly recognizable as a Porsche, where the M3 is so subtle it just looks like another coupe to the untrained eye.
Or maybe the cop was a little jealous to see you in such a nice car.

    Re: Speeding

I find that chances are difinately bigger that you'll get a ticket if your driving a 'flashy' car. Cops probably think all Porsche drivers think they're better than everyone else on the road + they can afford the ticket without any worries.

    Re: Speeding

How to avoid speeding tickets...if you own an IROC Camaro!

I've probably posted this link here before, but this Phil Hendrie phonecall is HILARIOUS!
Some say it's a fake call, (that Phil Hendrie does the voice himself) and others believe it's for real. At any rate it's funnier than hell.
It's 30 minutes long, but worth every second...so grab a cuppa and prepare to wet your pants....and of course get useable pointers on how to avoid tickets

See my post where I attached a picture of integrated Valentine One radar detector in the rear view mirror.....

If I were a cop, I'd find it a greater accomplishment to pull over a Porsche than a crappy BMW

No, just practice being more aware of hazards, including speed cops. Hope it wasn't in a residential area...

    Re: Speeding

that cop was hidden behind a tree using laser gun. No way can see him driving normally.
That is a business street but only big factories with no drive ways / cars / traffic lights / people / animals, nothing.

When he gave me the ticket, he asked me to drive safe and I talked back, "I am and I was driving very safe!"

    Re: Speeding

Apologies. Law of averages says it probably won't happen to you again though. Just note that position as a danger point, and stick rigidly to the limit there I suppose.

You don't want a laser detector as the spread of a laser beam is so small it would only be detected when it was too late. Your best defence would be a laser blocker, one of the intellegent ones such as Lidatek that blocks, alarms you and then shuts down so that the cops can't detect you have the device fitted. Not sure if it's available in the U.S. ?

    600 bucks without installation.
    and
The LE-30 is legal in every state except California, Utah, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Virginia, Nebraska, and Washington, D.C.
    sucks

    Re: Speeding

    I don't think it's legal here either...

It isn't but it is very small and discrete. On the 987, it would fit unnoticed in one of the front side vents, or the false central one (on the "S") under the registration plate. Seriously thought about getting one myself (it connects straight into the Origin B2 GPS / radar detector I've already got). But as I never exceed the speed limit, always wear a safety belt, wash my car every time I've been out in it and never fart in church I didn't buy one in the end.

    Re: Speeding

Radar detectors will just lure you into a state of over confidence. The last 4 tickets I got were "estimated". The cop says I believe you were speeding. Then you get to go to court and try to tell the judge how the traffic cops with 20yrs experience was incorrect.

    Re: Speeding

Dreamcar, I take it you missed all the coverage of a driver who was arrested for perverting the course of justice by using a laser jammer. BBC News - Arrest over speed trap 'jammer'

Visual estimation of speed is not legal evidence in most states. Check AZ law.

    Re: Speeding

Sorry for you , CS, about speeding, i think the french record have been raised today with a 27y old franco-portuguese man being recorded at 270 km/h(168,5Mph)near Bordeaux.

    Can't read it!!

    Our 987S can handle that.
    Should try
I am still trying the hide this from my wife. Saving up all my lunch money to cover it.

The technology with the Lidatec is such that when activated the laser gun shows an error message on its display. The unit then shuts down in time so that when the cop takes another reading he will get a true one - eliminating the suspicion that a blocker was used.

    Re: Speeding

Do you have to switch the system off manually after you've dropped your speed, or does it do this automatically?

Automatically. If you go to the link http://www.lidatek.com/, it gives all the spiel how the gizmo works.

I believe I'm correct in saying that is how all laser jammers work. The police are wise to this ploy as it is very rare to get an error message on their equipment and even more suspiscious to them if they have been checking cars all day long with no problems. The principle of the system is that it warns you with enough time to brake (provided you are not going at warp speed) so that the officer can take a second reading before you pass. These units take a huge power surge when jamming and take a little while to cool down and become operational again after being used.

    Re: Speeding

Hi, let me tell you about my experience with my brand new 987.
I commute everyday between New York city and Long Island. About 120 miles everyday. Never got a speeding ticket in 8 years with my Mercedes truck or BMW 3-serie. Everyone and their mothers routinely clock 70 mph on the LIE without any problem.
I got my new Boxster in August and the fist 4 weeks I mostly used it on weekends and going out a night.
Now listen to this. The first day I took it for a weekly commute. The FIRST day. I was pulled over and I got a real nasty ticket. It was 5:30 am and traffic was very fuid. I was enjoying this first real trip tremendously as one should with the top down. I was certainly not speeding. Just keeping up with traffic. No more, no less.
Cop pulled me over and said he flashed me at 72 mph. Gave me a ticket. $140. Ouch!
Now the best part. Because I was within the city limit, max speed authorized was 50 mph, not the usual 55 mph. It looks like you are already in the suburbs when you suddenly see a lot of trees but no, you are still in Queens. To make a long story short, because I was over 20 mph over limit, I got 6 point taken off my license (out of possible 12) AND I received in the mail a nice letter from the DMV informing me that starting in Nov 2004 New York State is imposing a surcharge of $300 on driver who lose 6 points or more withing 18 months or who are DUI.
So now the cost of this ticket is close to $500 and I can't wait for my insurance renewal next month where they probably just going to treat my as a common criminal.

Yeah it's nice to have a Porsche. I just was not prepared for this kind of harassement.

    Flojo
