Buying first Porsche

k so here's the deal.
I have 5000 CND to spend and i've been looking for porsche in the vancouver area.. based on my reseach and the amount of money i have to spend i decided that love the 914, 928 or 944. My question to you guys is if there is anything i should be concerned about when buying one of these three cars. I know the 914 really have rust problems and some can be very unsafe when looking at the strength of the chassis. I know its hard to buy a real nice porsche with only 5000 CND but i think i should be able to find a decent one that is mechanically sound. what do you guys think??

You can probably find a descent 944 with that much. Just watch out for the sellers that might think your after the badge and not the car itself. Make sure its in mechically good cond. you can always improve the looks/paint over time.

Im also looking to get a 944 (Turbo). Hopefully the loan will go through this week! (im excited!)

I would not go for a 924, my dad had a new one in the late 70s and it was not very friendly. Lots of the parts werent even porsche made.

Well i would surely take a 944, it's rock solid, service&parts are not too expensive and you can enjoy road and track without trouble as the reliability is very good.Try to find a local owner who will check for you the important points on the car of your dreams.
I would avoid the 928 because of the very strict&expensive engine services and the v8 engine is not as reliable as other porsche engines.
I know nothing about the 914, so.....

If you can go for an air cooled real Porsche ... see if you can find a 912 67-69 or a 76 912E
the 944 - 924 and the 914's were not really true Porsches .

$5,000CAN should get you into a half-decent 944. There are quite a few around, so take your time and don't rush into anything. They are very good little cars and they won't burn a hole in your wallet from repairs and maintenance.
A good 928 would probably cost more than $5,000. You could find one for that money, but it would probably end up costing you a lot of money in the long run.

What kind of experience do you have with the 944?

Last time I looked all porsches were water cooled.

On top of that, 912s are practically antiques! It would be impossible finding one with less than 175K miles.

these are both 1966 and a lot of fun to fix up ... a whole other league than the 924 or 944
