    Parmigiani Bugatti Type 370

    "Michel Parmigiani's Type 370 has been in development as long as the 1000-hp Bugatti Veyron that it's supposed to complement. But while the Veyron is still mired in high-speed testing, the Bugatti watch is now on sale -- for a price almost as outrageous as the million-Euro supercar. For the privilege of strapping one of Parmigiani's 150 Type 370s to your wrist, you'll pay upwards of $200,000."

    Since we were talking about watches I thought I would post this one. This is the new TAG Heuer Monaco V4. Its a concept but the thing is has to do with cars is that it is belt driven...which is pretty neat.

    I read in AutoWeek it is supposed to appeal to racing fans...and it also comes with a pretty hefty price I would imagine. Here is anohter picture...

    While I can sympathize with you guys gawking at the pricetags on these watches, you have to understand that this is so conceptual that it almost isn't possible, so the high price tag is completely necessary. Some people like cars, some people like real estate...some people like watches. A mechanically driven digital watch might be the norm in 20-50 years, but this thing is LIGHTYEARS ahead of its time (much like the components of the CGT). As a design student myself I appreciate the ludicrous amount of genius thinking which must have gone into this product as well as the others on this page. No they are not necessities, but in the time in which we live such luxuries are allowed

    I wish they had the PORSCHE crest like the ones on the front of PORSCHE vehicles. I would consider buying one then.

    Syfon, I hear what you're saying, but the mark-up on the hi-priced watches is ridicoulous. I have been designing watches for quite some time and one thing I learned quickly, is that there are a handful of factories that provide the different watchmakers with the same parts. Some parts are of course original and made for just one line of watches etc, but if you for one minute believe you are getting your money's worth when you pay 10-50,000$ for a Rolex, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC or what have you you need to update your knowledge.
    (Not directed at you, Syfon, this is a general observation.)

    Pay 10,000$ for an IWC watch (which is a prettty well-crafted piece of work) and you will probably get a 100$ watch. Maybe it will run the watchmaker as much as 500$ to produce if everything is handmade. It rarely is.
    Like everything else (including Porsche) we pay for the brand primarily.
    All good and fine, and sometimes those watches even resell for a nice price, so it can be an ok or even great deal.

    Here is my current favourite.
    It's a cheap 350$-watch from Certina called the DS.
    An apparent tribute to racing. I really like the design.
    In real life, however, it looks too shiny and cheap. But hey...that one probably cost 10 bucks to produce. Seriously.

    If you want something realy good with mecanical movement, history, and not too expensive, check out the Omega Speedmaster series..

    Heuer Carrera 12 (Threw that one in there for carlos)

    Those are the 'icon' watches that have history. Most aren't too expensive.
