    'S' less popular in Europe?

I'm in Hamburg on business, and I've seen many beautiful 911's here as I walk around with a big smile on my face. It seems that, as far as 997's go, C2's seem to outnumber C2S's by about 4 to 1, which I'm sure is not the case in North America. Is it cost? Taxes on the larger engine?

On another note, I saw a gorgeous silver 993 widebody that said 'Carrera S' on the back. I thought the last time there was a Carrera S before the 997 was the 1970's. It was definitely NOT a 993 Turbo S, so did the driver just badge it as an S for show, or was there such a car produced?

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Wasn't there a widebody 993 Carrera 2S and 4S in 1998? Different engine grille and script, standard motorsound, leather etc.??

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

As far as I know the s outnumber the standard car in the UK. In my little corner of the world I haven't as yet seen a standard 997 they are all ssssssssssssssss's here.

About the 993 2S: It was produced in '97, it had the body of the 4S + a painted 2 section engine grille.
However it doesn't have a different engine, just the standard 285hp one.
It think it's one of the most beautiful P's ever made!

I hope they will sometime make a two wheel drive version of the widebody 997. I think it would be succesful.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Far more S's in UK than standard cars.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Hmm, I'd think that you'd have to look at sales stats to get a real feel for it. If C2's do outsell then it might just be that people don't feel it's worth the extra

    Also here in Luxembourg

I've done some reading, and it seems that just before the entry of the 996, Porsche did release a Carrera S as pictured above, apparently to boost sales and renew interest in the 993. I concur: it was absolutely gorgeous.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

In London I have seen about equal numbers of S and non S 997 variations.

they don't even sell the standard one here, they only sell S models

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

the standart doesn' t sell well over here!!!!

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

    In belgium i didn't see a "non-S" yet.
The "S" outnumbers the standard 997 by far here (in flanders for sure)

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

That's correct, the previous "S" model was the 1997 993 S and in 1998 all 993's were the wider S model.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Only seen one "non-S" in Switzerland... and it had German plates

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

all over the middle east ,95% of 997's are c2s...

Are you sure you're not maybe mistaken Mike???
I've seen a few Carrera's on the roads and on the showroom floor over here... All the mags have them listed also.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

LMAO, trust me i asked them, they are NOT bringing in standard carreras here, they did it with the old 996 model, but not then 997

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

I have seen lots of new 911s in London. I would say three quarters are 997S. One quarter is 997.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

i will call my dealer and ask wtf is going on, upon ordering mine, i asked and they clearly said it was not going to be brought in. guess they might have changed their plans since then, will give them a call just to clarify

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

2 more observations: 911's are 50/50 Cab/Coupe. I've never seen this many cabs before.

Also, more 911's than Boxsters, which I haven't seen before either.

That's because the cab is a really mature car that incorporates everything you want in a porsche. Except for those who want to drive constantly on a circuit.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

Just in Paris for 3 days and I've come to exactly the same conclusions I did after visiting Hamburg: the C2 outnumbers the C2S, and there seem to be more 911's than Boxsters. Both are unlike what I've seen in N.A.

Hottest car I saw was a black 996 MkI GT3 that was driving up and down the Champs Elysees. Beaut.

When I mentioned to a few coworkers that I was thinking of buying a Carrera, and after explaining the C2/C4, C2S/C4S one coworker says "Now let me get this right, they sell a "sporty" version of a sports car?" Well, I fell out of my chair b/c he is right.. I was nitpicking over a few things but in reality even a base C2 is more car then most people will ever get a chance to enjoy.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

More Non S cars in Tokyo. Seems like most people like the 18" alloys in Japan. Guess all the reviews of the cars make the Non S car more attractive and there is a slight different in price - approximately USD 28,000 or so. Not sure if 30 more horses are worth USD 28,000.

Another interesting thing is that the depreciation hits the S way more than the Non S car in JP. It was the same with the 996 Carrera 4 S. A 2004 996 4S is about JPY 9,500,000 a 2004 996 C2 with similar mileage and options is about 8,500,000 however the new price difference was approximately JPY 3,000,000!!!

All S in Hong Kong more so than base for vanity reasons I think. The base is already more car than most people can drive in a city with more speed traps than ever. However, the 19"and the red calipers really make people wanna have the S more. The black standard ones are a bit too blend I guess. For a base to get those options would already be priced over the S. Plus S and non S would only mean around 160,000 HKD 20K USD so people think it is well worth it. Resale value... I don't know about that but I think the base would hold up better. For my 987 I still got the S but people told me it would depreciate more so than the 987 standard.

Re: 'S' less popular in Europe?

About 50/50 standard vs "S" here, but actually there are not alot of 997's of any kind to be seen around here. Mostly classic 911sc or type 964's, all very clean; or 996 Turbos that look absolutely killer. I see as many Caymans as I do 997's.
