    Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

    Hello!

I am wondering what you guys think of the RWD Carreras (2 & S) and the variable 4WD Carreras (4 & 4S). I hear many different things such as: Carrera RWDs are easier to slide (get the tail out), more nimble, etc. but the Carrera 4WDs understeer in tight bends, but are "safer" in wet/icy conditions. I have also heard that the 4WD Carreras do not understeer and that they literally pull you into the direction you steer at (transfers extra power to front wheels when required) and some even drift. I have also heard that in some cases a 4WD Carrera can lap a track faster than its 2WD equivalent. A 2WD Carrera wears out its rear tyres after about 3k of spirited local driving but its front tyres are still in v. good condition. Would a 4WD Carrera be the same or would its front tyres be left with less tread?

Please help me separate fact from myth...

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

The turbo is the Daddy - make no mistake about it. AWD is very helpful for the average and even moderately experienced driver to harness the power. A Turbo with RWD is a dangerous ccar for an inexperienced driver - just look at how many GT2's get totalled.

As for the non-blown 911, the C2 is the sportier car, the C4 is potentially safer and will be better in less than ideal road conditions.

C4 cuts the life of the front tires in about half.

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

Again, the Turbo is the big daddy...Darth Vader while the Carrera's are Luke Skywalker.lol

The All wheel drive variants may be safer and may handle like a train on its tracks, but that is also its undoing. The 2wd variants are more fun

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

the prive gap is too big to make a comparison between a carrera 2 and the Turbo

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

C2 vs C4: why bother unless snow is an issue?

Why get the Turbo? Depends on how much $$$ you want to spend on a car; especially considering the law of diminishing returns is in full effect.

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

Looks like the brakes in the C4 are different than the ones in the C2

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

yes i ve read this before, but its not so important to make you choose 4 over 2

I agree....but it' s one more argument to justify ( or not) the extra $$$$ they ask!!!!

It's good only to increase the wear of brake pads!

Sorry, I meant that for approx us$60K you get what? A hundred more hp bigger tires? That's alot of $$$ for that amt of HP.

oh, I'm assuming the car will be for the street.

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

As far as handling under generally unsafe whether conditions IMO the Carrera 4 was a better argument in the days when the 911 didn't have PSM. With PSM I'd rather spend my money on the S versus a non-S 4. PSM offers excellent protection in uneven and slippery surfaces already, even if not the level of performance the 4 can provide in deep snow. Again, IMO less of a factor than the days when the car didn't have PSM.

Yeah, it is very pricey all considering...
Don't you think most people would pay that just for that badge though???

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

yes this could be the case in some peoples minds the TURBO badge is the reason ....

Yeah well it's nice to have extra power in case of emergency. But if you can afford it (yes it's pricey) then why not try it? I like the Turbo for its great wide-body looks and spoiler.

Re: Carrera 2 Vs Carrera 4

    Totally agreed

If you got the money why not. Even if dont have the capabilities. I share the same feelings.

No one has to give explanations about how he decided to spend his money.
