    BMW M5/M6 Speed Limit Removal available from BMW!!!

    BMW finally has decided to offer a speed limit removal option for the new BMW M5 and M6.
    I don't have any details yet and I don't know if the 250 kph limit will be removed completely or just raised to 280 or 300 kph. Unfortunately there is also a rumor that this option won't be available to all markets, more details to follow as soon as we get more.

    Upon request, BMW replaces the 250kph limit by a 305kph limit. Price is around 2.500 Euros in Germany.

    Apparently, the 305kph limit is based on speedometer data (and not on actual speed). I.e. the actual limit is located slightly below 300kph.

    Curious if you guys would trust BMW brakes' fade resistance after a few autobahn decelerations from 150MPH+?

    Didn't they offer something similar on the M3 CSL in the UK, only you had to have a race license before they'd remove it....

    I dont think they'll ask for a race license with this car though IMO.

    No need for a race license anymore and the brakes are tested up to possible top speed, not like on older models.
    It should be safe.

    .......BMW wont bring out a car with such a high top speed without having adequite brakes.

    Wow, that would be awesome, why do I get the feeling that more AMG models will come with that option too? Merc has to keep in the race as well

    looks like the porsche guys can't depend on the BMW limiter to win the race for them anymore

    BMW M brakes are crossed drilled and floating. They're as good as any Brembos. Don't sweat it.

    thanks for the info RC.

    the BMW guys are pathetic... for years management explains why they have to limit the speed and now all of the sudden these things dont apply any longer. they can make 2500 euro, so it's welcome...
    I'm glad though that Porsche gets pressurized a bit... they will have to make that up somehow..

    I guess that means we'll start seeing 200mph AMG sedans too. Not sure if I like the idea of a 5,000 lb 210mph behemoth on the road, but it's probably faster than flying between many German cities...

    Given that in the US we routinely see old, 5000lb+ SUVs driven @70MPH+ while tailgating a few feet behind car in front....all by a driver who prob has questionable insurance/ability to speak English and slurping on his Big Gulp (gotta keep ingesting calories on those long drives...hard work staying obese) and chatting on his cell (everyone important has to multi-task, right?)....I'll bet on the German plutocrat blitzing down the autobahn in his delimited S600 anyday.....
