Will there be a new CGT

I bet we will see a new CGT , hard to believe they will just shut down the part of the factory where this model was made . I am sure they will wait till all the last ones are sold but at some point there surly will be another top end model that will occupy that part of the Leipzig Factory .

Maybe you're right, in this day and age design is faster and a flagship model always boosts the whole company. However, there was a long wait between the F50 and the enzo and an even longer wait between the 959 and the CGT. If history is any indication, it will be 10+ years before another "CGT." But again, things seem different now.

Re: Will there be a new CGT

maybe its becouse the production just stoped

Re: Will there be a new CGT

I belive they are going to use that part of the factory for the Panamera...

Re: Will there be a new CGT

Or just sell the factory machines...

Re: Will there be a new CGT

My prediction....Porsche will keep all the CGT tooling and in 2008 on it's 60th. anniversary, it will release a limited edition (60 units) of the CGT which will have 750HP!!!

I like your way of thinking. If that happens I'll wet my pants cause the car will be [censored] awesome

Re: Will there be a new CGT

    Just my 2 cents, I don't think there will be a CGT-II.

    a) They need the space for the Panamera
    b) I think their R&D department (Weissach) is now very busy working on the Panamera and on the Cayenne-II and I'm not quite sure they have enough ressources to develop another CGT
    c) If you want to keep a "relative" degree of exclusivity, you must stop producing it and do another one in 5-10 years from now.

By the way, as far as I know they haven't stopped producing the CGT...

PS : I know for our friend nberry, the CGT ISN'T exclusive at all, it's a mass production car.

Re: Will there be a new CGT

Ya I dont think they have the funds to develope all those cars and build them. A new Carrera GT would be nice, along with a 60th Ann. CGT but won't it cost mega bucks to keep production open until 2008?? Also, if they keey producing the CGT until 2008 the "exclusivity" of the car will decrease. It is fun to think about though.

Re: Will there be a new CGT

When I say "not enough ressources at Weissach", I was thinking of human ressources not cash.
Porsche has over Euro 2.0bn of NET cash on the balance sheet and they will spend slightly over Euro 1.0bn for the Panamera so there is still plenty left for the Cayenne II.

Keep in mind, they spent Euro 600m for the Cayenne and they did something very nice .... so imagine with Euro 1.0bn !!!

Re: Will there be a new CGT

Slightly off Topic but does anyone think there will be a Carrera GT-R seeing as though it was originally developed for racing?

i think the engine was originally developed for racing...not the car itself. but i could be wrong

Re: Will there be a new CGT

and as much as i'd love to see a CGT-R kicking C6-R, Viper, Ferrari & everyone else's ass on the track, i severly doubt it'll happen

Re: Will there be a new CGT

I think a CGT 2 is unlikely. Given that P spent good money on the CGT but won't crash test it further to continue to be able to sell it in the US, it seems unlikely to me that they will would suddenly decide to spend a whole lot more money.

However, if they really rake in the money with the combination of sales of the Boxster, Cayman, 911, Cayenne & Panamera then who knows? Maybe they'll want to spend the cash that's burning a hole in their pockets...

Though the CGT is relatively exclusive because it is a Porsche the term has no meaning. Porsche is the Mustang of sport cars. Good performance and they make a ton of them. As a result, exclusivity cannot be applied to any Porsche product because they produce close to 100,000 of them per year.

Re: Will there be a new CGT

    So the 959 isn't exclusive???

Re: Will there be a new CGT

    Exclusive?

With all due respect, Nick, a car is only really 'exclusive' if it is totally unique for a particular buyer. There are incredibly few such cars today. As such, the term 'exclusive' which is so often bandied about is in reality only a relative term of pretension and is invariably abused in its use.

Re: Will there be a new CGT

After E2 (Panamera) there will be the E3, a new flagship model from Porsche, spiritual successor to the Carrera GT. Mid-engined V8 or V10, due in 2012, components shared with P998 (next 911, due 2010) and P988 (next Boxster, due 2011).

Well, I'd hate to buy a $500.000 supercar which shared components with a Boxster - I believe Nick feels the same way.
