Faster ring times than a 997S incredible ..... I love Porsche but they are really pushing it with the price of the Cayman .... what will this thing end up costing with a bunch of must have options .

I am not bashing the Cayman .... Porsche with the 997 really has no competition in the 100K range but in the 60K range it is a different story and I think 60K + for this little car is really pushing it . The look of this thing remids me a little of the 430 .

There are many dealers that will sell it for MSRP. There is a waiting list, but it's not that long. Chevy has the ability to build them pretty fast.

It would be a hard decision, very thight, but I would get the Cayman.
The Cayman would be more adapted to my daily driving all year long over here....maybe I would also be influenced by the 'image issue'?

I love how you count only Z06s on GM's side, but you include base models, GTs, TT, even boxsters and caymans on Porsche's.

Chevy Corvette sales were 30,000 last year. They plan additional 7000 Z06's for MY2006.
If the question is choose a Cayman or a Z06. If its dry, you would have to be crazy not to choose the vette if you
like sports cars.
Cayman will be nimbler, plusher, have better cockpit and be ez to place in a corner, but slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww as molasses by comparison.
Corvette optioned out is same price as a new M5.Lots of choices at that price point!

Probably for the price of a new 997 turbo you can own both a Z06 and a Cayman. The 997TT will still weigh 400lbs more than the Corvette Z06, so guess wich one will be rear view
mirror bait? Maybe the answer is to get a Cayman and supercharge it. With a supercharger and intercooler you could get 400hp out of it maybe.

Depending on the horsepower of the new Turbo, the Vette will probably be quicker. But acceleration is only one aspect of a cars performance and I really think Porsche's and Corvette's appeal to different people. I've been told on this site that some Porsche owners are former Vette owners but I wonder if that was at a different stage in their lives or did they consider both on the same day.

Can you say dead horse? If you can afford one, you can afford the other. Both great cars, likely appreciated by people with a little different combination of tastes and priorities. We're all lucky and will enjoy our cars. I will be buying a Cayman S.

The vette is just plain ugly IMO and no amount of horsepower can outrun it.
No doubt the Vette will most likely be the better track car.....but for the street I'll take the poise, precision, quality, and style of the Cayman any day......not to mention the all around fun factor Porsche cars always seem to have. Driven several vettes and if all you want to do is blast from red light to red light it's your car. I have graduated from that type of activity now.

Did someone say "Morgan"? I have a sixth sense about such things. Yes, indeed, you can pay big bucks for a rickety old English car made by elves, complete with drum brakes, sliding pillar suspension, and ball style accelerator. The challenge is, of course, driving one of these archaic pieces at speed on your choice of road. Trust me, it's a blast! Jim's post just reminds me that fun is what it's all about. I prefer cars that are entertaining and fast, but given a choice I'll just take the fun ones. I still haven't driven a Vette that I felt was that much fun. After driving the C6 z51, I was just aching to get in my Volvo 60R for some steering feedback. Smiled all the way home.

Well what can you say about worm and peg steering? 
The most fun sports car I ever drove was beat to death Morgam 4/4. It reminded me of what WW1 Biplane pilots must
have felt, but only on the ground! It was a blast.
If the new regular Morgan was more like 50K instead of almost 100K, I would get one in a finster. Porsches are
frustratingly so competent that the wrongs side of the speedometer constantly begs for attention.

Include regular corvettes with the Z06, don't include boxsters with 911s and then you have a comparison that makes sense.
